It would also be interesting to discover if indeed it is early year that big distributors contemplate their contracts with couriers and who to use going forward...Stunl3y wrote:Do people seriously think that after Xmas isnt a good time to strike ?, January sales, Holiday brochures going out etc , of course it is

Was disappointed at 1st when heard news but after calming down & thinking about it have decided to give union some credit.
I believe the union knew all along this would happen.
But what they have done to RM is show real intent in calling a 2/3 day strike from off.
They now have 7 weeks to reach an agreement with RM knowing what's coming if they don't.
With now I think a better chance of an agreement without us having to go out & lose money.

I agree, the initial feeling is that of anger and disappointment but once you sit back and process everything we are actually in a very good place, hopefully the CWU get to talk to the correct people now and not low level management that have zero power to make meaningful decisions other than sending out leaflets and sms messagesgb93 wrote:Was disappointed at 1st when heard news but after calming down & thinking about it have decided to give union some credit.

Why do the public and media NEED to know? Are they going to negotiate a deal for us? If everyone worked to time, no working your days off, it would certainly give those at the top of the tree a better idea of just how much they rely on us to do the overtime and how short staffed we really are. Most Dom's haven't got the guts to tell it like it is. Oh, and maybe we wouldn't lose so much business, and hence future jobs. Just a thought.Creditshampoo wrote:That would do f**k all how many times, the media the public etc wouldn’t know much more than they did nowJambomatt1874 wrote:The biggest impact on the business would be just work your paid hours! Who else can this this scenario?
RM and CWU fumble around for a while trying to agree the mediators. Eventually they do and RM start their clock at that point whilst the CWU started their clock after the injunction.
7 weeks from now the union serves notice for strike action and RM disagree on its timing and go back to the high court to get injunction part 2.

I would imagine the mediators will be appointed by ACAS, so both parties will have no say.

Correct! The solution is sooooooo obvious ! Or am I missing something ?rambo1 wrote:Why do the public and media NEED to know? Are they going to negotiate a deal for us? The members and non - members complain a lot about our situation, we are in this situation simply because the delivery staff are the best weapon in RMs armoury. We accept all the s**t thrown at us, yet still our colleagues still pull RM out of the shitpot they ( RM) create ! " help us out, lot of sick, we need to go the extra mile ! "Bla, bla, bla !
Delivery people are expected to go above and beyond for "flexibility" I ask, where is Moyà and her hierarchys flexibility ?
Yeh, their reward for our flexibility is HUGE bonuses on our efforts.
It's nuts, they put the boot in, we say OK, give us MORE of the same ! WHY ?
Royal Mail have NO interest in its staff, we are simple commodities to use and abuse to appease shareholders.
By the time we realise the plot of undermining us, treating us like s**t it may be too late. Rise, stand up like real men/women. Have some dignity, we no longer live in the dark ages. Our fore fathers stood up for our generation, do not allow it to have been in vain. RM want us to compete on the terms of the rival companies, wrong, these competitors are abusing weaker - non represented people - who are exploited, without unity we let down our working classes, this selfish society we live in needs addressed.

Exactly, in fact the more I think about it the more I'm inclined to think that Jan strikes would be just as effective, if not more so, than Dec strikes...
- Posties would have chance to build up savings with all the Christmas Pressure overtime (Expecting a Christmas Pressure Work to Rule is a complete non-starter imo)
- Mail volumes are huge in Jan and pkt volumes don't exactly drop off a cliff come Jan 1st either... so just as much disruption for RM to deal with.
- A Dec strike would see RM massively win the propaganda war, both in terms of us ''giving work to our competitors'' and in portraying us to the general public
as the heartless, selfish baddies trying to ruin everyone's Christmas.

I agree that january strikes would be virtually just as effective but don't agree with the points about xmas pressure. For starters there are no holidays over december so there are extra duties and also night staff, casuals and packet overtime. It may feel as busy in january on one particular walk but the overall operation is busier at xmas.
Also, I believe that there is added pressure on the company with xmas strikes because there is a general feeling that RM go the extra mile in the xmas holidays and that perception is a powerful thing.

Lets turn this the other way.
i bet the ones at the top are grinning away.
If they stretch mediation up to xmas....don't do overtime, cut off, do the job exactly as is.
no coming in early of finish early...make it so awkward.
change or lose forever!!
How often have we reps said it??
We can defeat these deviants.

Never going to happen but we do occasionally have managers do our job's now you can generally tell with all the packets left on top of the frame or a manager says this was miss delivered last week who did it oh it was a manager bring out the broom!Brandy wrote:Would love to see Moya and her cronies be posties,I wonder how long they would last.

You obviously know nothing about delivery! If you did you'd know it realise on people going in early working there break working late all the wee bits that people do that they shouldn't. I'd also appreciate you didn't swear on any of my posts your quoting in future!Creditshampoo wrote:That would do f**k all how many times, the media the public etc wouldn’t know much more than they did nowJambomatt1874 wrote:The biggest impact on the business would be just work your paid hours! The union had proff the R/M would not go into mediation so that refusal should have made the strike legal the judge came down on the R/Ms side, wrong IMO but nothing to do with our union, in the end we lose nothing talks can take place the company know the workforce will strike if they do not listen to our concerns.
