CWU let us down?
The biggest impact on the business would be just work your paid hours! The business is so reliant on people coming in early and willing to work late!

CWU let us down?
While it is disappointing that they won the injunction , RM are not better off than before.
They have lost the workforce
They have been forced into mediation
They have the very real prospect of strike action in December
The point of going on strike was to make RM get round the table and negotiate, not to just lose 2 days pay

What it would do is this, RM would need to face up to the reality of the job done by posties.Creditshampoo wrote:That would do f**k all how many times, the media the public etc wouldn’t know much more than they did nowJambomatt1874 wrote:The biggest impact on the business would be just work your paid hours! Think of it like this, they are getting the job/work done on the cheap ! Meanwhile they want to claw back revenue off the backs of the same staff who are doing them a super service already - they are biting the hand that feeds them. Meanwhile they expect you to be great full for the privilidge of working fir RM. They are quite simply taking the piss.
They have already increased prices to the public to appease shareholders, they would rockets without the continued good will of many blinkered colleagues. They public don't know, but we do. Time to stop been the downtrodden, stand up and grow a pair !

CWU let us down?
I've been in this business a long time and I've seen first hand the dirty tricks RM play they would quiet happily lie through their back teeth if it helped them get what they want.
CWU haven't let us down, they haven't been outsmarted this decision went down to who would lose the most by this action and it was RM, they would lose customers and money, you have to remember this decision was made by the establishment and a judge who's never given any union anything.
I was angry with RM about what they are trying to do to this great company and the most hard working, knowledgeable workforce in this industry, and I am even more angry now, its made me more determined to take industrial action if necessary.
Don't lose faith and hope in the CWU, this is just the start.

All that has happened is its a postponement. OK we can't strike now but the threat is still there. Even better it's closer to christmas .7 week's of mediation is a good idea who knows we may not have to strike? Remember us the cwu are in a good position, it's rm who have the clock ticking .we have sent a clear message of how we feel and what action we are prepared to do . Keep supporting YOUR union stick together rise up and show rm we won't be beaten

most offices every week rely on posties doing overtime to clear the mail if every postie in every office do not make up d2ds in their own time and came in on their proper starting time and only worked their contracted hours the mail would soon start to pile upCreditshampoo wrote:That would do f**k all how many times, the media the public etc wouldn’t know much more than they did nowJambomatt1874 wrote:The biggest impact on the business would be just work your paid hours! why ? if no agreement within the 5 weeks and 2 weeks notice would lead to strikes the start of December and its wasn't just about an xmas strike , no matter when you strike imo it with still cause a lot of problems to the company ,loverman shabba wrote:so obvious royal mail will see the strikes off until after xmas then they have won. no point striking after xmas in my eyes

CWU let us down?
In my opinion No.
I think it was a good strategic move to fall into the trap Royal Mail set.
Royal Mail seem to want to drag this out, after 18 months they hadn't thought of going to arbitration
.
Now because the strike was called early, Royal Mail enacted their prepared plan to go to the courts. If the Union hadn't called it early they would have dragged their feet and used more delaying tactics until the CWU got fed up and activated the strike.
Now because they have Royal Mail have a legal condition and timetable to meet. It's not quite "Bravo Union" but it does deserve a ripple of applause at least.

CWU let us down?
Royal Mail doesn,t just make its money over the Christmas period. If it did they would shut it down for nine months of the year. Any strike after Christmas will place immense pressure on the Board of Directors who are already running scared and looking to compromise. It will just be down to how far they are willing to compromise as to whether further strike announcements will be necessary. You need to believe that if an agreement isn't reached then strikes at any time will see jobs at board level under severe scrutiny. This company is no longer backed up by public money. It is the money of the investment banks, pension funds and the rich who will not support a long drawn out war with the employees. They will want stability as well as a reasonable return on their investments. If Moya Greene and co cannot provide this then heads will roll.

I totally agree with you and that is how I used to feel, that is until the bullying by the managers took its toll. I know a lot of posties like you love their job its just about time RM learnt to treat them with the respect they all deserve.mr hil. wrote:I personally think the Union have outsmarted RMG. They want the best agreement for us, RMG were not listening and declined the earlier request to involve ACAS. Cleverly they have now forced RMG to enter outside mediation. I know the recommendations will be non binding but at the end of the process we will have a clearer idea just how far apart the two parties remain. I am hopeful for a negotiated settlement that satisfies the principles within the four pillars.
RMG keep comparing us to Yodel etc. but we are not parcel couriers, WE ARE POSTIES, we deliver a service and we should be proud of the work we do. Excessive profits should not be the ultimate goal, being the best, most trusted and professional organisation should be. We are not any old delivery company, we are THE ROYAL MAIL.
I am still proud to be a postie, I work diligently and often "go the extra mile" for my customers. I do it because I can, often at a cost to me, but not everything in this life has to be about making the absolute maximum amount of money. I hope RMG realise this and eventually, with the help of the Union, alter their obsessive fixation on wringing every last cent from the operation and get back to providing the superlative service that will see customers preferring to use us instead of the competition because they know we will always fulfill our promise to deliver their items even when the address is more like a crossword clue. There will always be the customers who will go for the cheapest option, but I would rather pay that little bit extra and get a far superior service, so lets stop trying to compete on price and go all out for service, at a small premium.

I agree with lincox... Christmas isn't the be all and end all, it's just a notch up the scale in terms of how busy we are with mail and pkts.
Any strike after Christmas will cause just as much disruption to RM and put just as much shareholder pressure on the Board, whilst at least we would have more sympathy and support from the general public, which we definitely won't have if we do end striking in the run up to Christmas.
