It would be nice but it will never happen. There's too many part timers who need the money, so will happily do the overtime. Plus we shouldn't expect them to live on peanuts while full timers don't sacrifice anything, and live with a half decent wage.LaggyBand wrote:Doing the job properly then overrun procedure is the key to this, if it was actually done by all and for months it would be more effective than any few days of strike. DOING THE JOB PROPERLY
I do all of this on a daily basis anyway as that's what my job is and I finish on time too regardless of what route I'm on (I'm a reserve). I don't understand why anyone wouldn't be doing this anyway everyday or you are open for action to be taken against you. If you can't get it done then take it back by all means but I think the walls in my current office are some of the tougher ones compared to other offices I've worked in and it can be done on time.bloot wrote:you cant go on industrial action , at this time it is against the law . work to rule , if everyone in every do across the board done this then i would agree but there are far too many that just wont do it . i had a post on here a while back saying i just want to work my hours which tbh i can or used to be able to achieve most of the time . now its slightly different with lapsing still a regular infact everyday thing which i do only if i think i can complete otherwise i say i aint doing it .you are right , if everyone done their job properly or the way royal mail want you to do it you cannot be disciplined , start time , van check , throw in mail , do households , tie up , load van , get specials , get in van , seatbelt on , leave do , get to first point , stop engine , seatbelt off , get first letters (from rear of vehicle) , packets , parcels etc , wait a few mins with parcel , knock again , wait again , no answer , walk to first neighbour wait for a reply , no answer try other neighbour , no answer , back to original point and do a notice left (question , how long do you think that takes compared to royal mail ?), back to van when youve done your loop and how ever many notice lefts . seatbelt on , de mist windows if its crap weather , on and on and on . Nobody can do it PROPERLY within royal mails time spans .k979aaa wrote:Lot's of people are saying work to rule if you tell a manager that you are on industrial action and you and the union could be disciplined or even sacked but if you take your breaks work your hours or don't go over your time or start before your time you are DOING THE JOB PROPERLY and you cannot be disciplined or sacked for that so do it that way.

people have to be careful and not leave themselves open to an individual dispute, their legal eagles are much better than ours, for those who regularly do overtime, carry on as normal if they choose to, gentle advice to those who cut corners about the long term damage and making a rod for their own back without being provocative,
we must not create an us and them within the union.
one way to get their backs up would be for our reps to go to EVERY office and inform the boss there that there is a zero tolerance on any management doing ANY opg work that's against the agreement or face a walkout, if only just to ruffle their chicken feathers, only ever seen it done once and the line manager threw a right tantrum and we all knew he couldn't do a thing about it,
quite funny really

When our revision went in they took too many hours out, walks where too big everybody used the Lwt's took their breaks
And did the job properly, we had hours put back in and about four new starters on 25hr contracts,2 of those new starters are now full time and the rest including the 25hr guys that are not new to the business are now on 30hr contracts
Granted it helps when your office are tight, but with this dispute there is a real chance of firing people up nationally in a positive way....if Royal Mail had their way,you would be getting a phone call as and when they wanted you in
There's a reason you don't have a full time contract and it's because of people coming in early, working through their breaks and not backing each other up..now is an opportunity to change that

Part time contracts would be fine if the business didn’t let them get used to earning full time wages for months an/years only to remove the overtime in January when they’ve overspent at Christmas

Don't know about DOs but in MCs if they took out all the ot and casuals for a month you'd probably end up with every shift failing everydayCreditshampoo wrote:Part time contracts would be fine if the business didn’t let them get used to earning full time wages for months an/years only to remove the overtime in January when they’ve overspent at Christmas

Not completely relevant to this thread, but if we want to protect our jobs we need to fight against companies that want to do E-billing. We can do our bit by checking our online accounts with our banks, energy companies, etc and make sure that we have selected a preference for paper billing. Natwest have just notified me online that they have automatically put me in for e-billing, but that I can change this after the 20th October which I plan to do.

The only problem with that is the money you save through E-billing. Per month, not so much; Over the year, it's a tidy sum.

But even if just the full timers do the job properly, it will still have a large impact? Especially the rurals which are difficult to cover.CPTNemoUK wrote:It would be nice but it will never happen. I totally sympathise with what you're saying. Clearly RM love taking on workers that are constantly hungry for some more coins, preferably scrapping with one another over who gets what. So that on light days they all get nothing and on heavy days it goes to the cheapest price.CPTNemoUK wrote:It would be nice but it will never happen. But I don't think doing the job properly and allowing part timers to work a load of OT are necessarily incompatible.
Logging off vans when they are unsafe. Doing your checks. Not rushing. Not reading and walking. Using a dog peg every time. No jumping fences. Taking your break. Driving back to office to use toilet if needed. And booking loads of OT as a result.

WHy would you need to drive back to the office to use the toilet. I'm sure most deliveries will have a supermarket or pub or school nearer than the office?

I don't know where you're based joewyan, but there are no pubs, cafes, supermarkets or public toilets on the housing estates where I deliver!

Ok fair enough, there aren't everywhere. But in my case it's a 30 minute drive each way to the depot so there are lots of places closer than going back but I know there will be places like yours where that can't happen obviously.Glp28357 wrote:I don't know where you're based joewyan, but there are no pubs, cafes, supermarkets or public toilets on the housing estates where I deliver!
