Accidentally damaged new van, may be fired?

In our office they take you of driving duties until you go on a 2 hour driving course usually run by RAC. Apparently they are quite good and you get paid.

The issue really shouldn't be whether the van is new or not. Someone is inevitably gonna put it's first scrape on it. If they have said your sacked because it's a new van then they're in the wrong. The same disciplinary should apply for any age/condition van. You owned up, thats a positive. GL .

don't worry about.i had a minor scrape with less than 100 miles on the clock

woooaahh that's as bad as snapping a laggy band, just tools of the trade, don't worry about it. They wear out so many kettles in their office the cost will be much higher.

Im my office we had to do the 2 hour driving course in our own time, after our shift, unpaid

Really. That would be illegal surely.

You are not an employee when you aren't working, you aren't working if you aren't being paid, therefore the insurance wouldn't cover you.

That's wrong on many levels. I could believe that at some companies but never heard of anything like that at RM.

For future reference, if they request you to do anything work-related in your own personal time then you are quite legally entitled to inform them that they can just 'do one', as the kids say.

We have about fifteen vans in our yard and not one of them is dent free, no one has been sacked over any of them. As TBT says get rep involved.

Got a guy in out office he had a RTC with another car while on his phone. Guess what he's still in the job.
