The second time the post office has been raided in six months.

A woman was punched in the face by armed robbers who raided the post office in Stoke Golding.

Two men entered the premises in Church Walk this morning and threatened staff while demanding cash while armed with weapons.

The balaclava-clad men left moments later with an unknown quantity of cash.

It is not known if anyone else was injured in the incident which happened at about 9.15am.

Emergency services, including ambulance staff, rushed to the scene.

Officers from Leicestershire Police are on the scene now.

One woman reported seeing “police cars everywhere” in the village.

East Midlands Ambulance Service were also called to the post office today.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call from Leicestershire Police at 09:46 asking for our medical assistance with an incident on Church Walk.

“We sent two crewed ambulances.”

It is not yet known whether anyone was taken to hospital.

One Stoke Golding resident saw the culprits speeding away following the armed robbery.

Nicky Pickard said: “I only became aware of the situation when one of the local ladies was running and shouting about the robbery and that the culprits were heading my way, but they had a parked car up the side of the church and that’s when I first realised fully what had gone on.

“They sped of at such a speed towards Dadlington, I tried to get the number plate but only caught the first few numbers but luckily another lady managed a photo with the full reg.

“The culprits had ran past another lady to the car and she believes they were around 20-30 based on their voices - their faces were still hidden by balaclavas.”

It is the second armed robbery at the post office in less than six months.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “Police officers are in attendance at a premises in Church Walk following a report of an armed robbery.
