Villagers of Bradwell-on-Sea go without post on Mondays and Tuesdays for weeks due to postmen illness

VILLAGE residents suffered weeks of no postal deliveries due to many postmen being ill.

Residents of Bradwell-on-Sea were left scratching their heads as a whole month went by where no post was delivered on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Some residents were informed by a passing postman that they had been instructed to not deliver to their roads on certain days.

Mike Harris, who lives on Hockley Lane in the village, said: “It started about a month ago with many of us who live on this long road not receiving any postal deliveries on Mondays or Tuesdays.

“It went on for about five weeks, and when we asked one of the postmen who arrived later in the week to deliver he told us they had been instructed by Royal Mail to not deliver to specific roads in the village on Mondays or Tuesdays.

“It was all very unsusual, almost as though they were trying to cover something up, such as cutbacks.

“This week we did get some post on Monday, but for a long period no one was getting anything, even for tracked or first class deliveries.”

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “We would like to apologise to any customers in parts of Bradwell-on-Sea who may not recently have received the first class service we aim to provide to all our customers.

“This has been due to unusually high levels of sick absence causing temporary staff shortages. We are working very hard to resolve the issue as quickly as we possibly can. Any mail not delivered one day will go out for delivery the next day.

“We are committed to delivering a high quality of service to all our customers in Bradwell-on-Sea and our focus is to restore our service to the high standards our customers would normally receive.”
