That's the problem with the one-perspective that is Luddism.
Maybe but mass-production has meant most people having loads more clothes than they need and wasting loads of food while those that mass-production has put out of work go short. :thumbdown
Everyone was much better off, and happier, when I were a lad and nearly every man had a job that brought home a wage that a family could live on. :thumbup

The walk sequence machine were brought in to royal mail using a loan from the government in the last decade around 2007.
I repeat, public money for private gain.
Things will always change, only last week on radio 4 morning news , an expert used the word annihilation with regard to jobs in the future because of technology.
In royal mails case it would have been harder to sell it without that public loan.
I wonder have they paid it back yet?

Nothing like over-generalisation...

That's the rosy view of the past although there reality was often rather different, but what's that got to do with automation?

Repeat all you like, but RM automation started with ALF's and 1st generation code desks back in the late 1960s, an era when the concept of privatising RM was unheard-of.
CSS's were merely the latest in a long line.

Start again , the walk sequencing machines were acquired with a government loan without those machines they would not have found a buyer.

Don't talk daft. The dramatic drop in mail over the last few years have meant that CSS's were never the cost-savers RM had envisaged.
They didn't "find a buyer" they privatised it, and given RM's huge property portfolio, it was always going to be a well-over- subscribed flotation.
I rather doubt that 99.99% of those buying shares would know a CSS or what it does if one was dumped in thier front garden...

Basically RM seem to love wasting money on stupid wasteful schemes.

Rebranding a well-recognised brand to 'Consignia'; machines to sequence letters, which are actually their business' declining market; daft vests so that posties can mix up bundles of mail on the street... whatever next....

Long term business will go bust eventually due to automation and no one got any money to buy things apart from people who have too much money. So the top 5% can't make any money as 95% can't earn money. It will be a social disorder waiting to happens in global scale.

Not so much of an over-generalisation as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
Maybe a tad rose tinted but that doesn't make it untrue. :thumbup

The walk fittings are set up for the walk sequencing trays ,enabling easier prep , they must have included that in their plans ,which in a small way deskilled the job.
Basically the css would still have been needed to progress to where we are now.
If there's a strike and agency workers go on the fittings they could quite easily prep the sequenced mail. I am sure royal Mail envisaged that.
Which of course they would not have been able to do without government (taxpayers money) Public money for Private Gain.

When I've pointed out the basic errors in your claims you keep coming back with evermore fanciful and contorted assertions.
You win....public money for private gain is clearly some sort of personal mantra, so have at it.
Funny though......RM have trouble planning ahead for next Christmas, but in your world they successfully plan ten years + in advance. Must be their tinfoil hats, eh?

I have made my point ,others can decide whose correct ,thats why I posted it.and in some ways it doesn,t matter now -all in the past ,I just thought it was not very ethical and I feel
a duty to point it out.
