Although you are on strike you must still show up at the gate. It is not a holiday.
It will be a holiday eating a sausage and egg mcmuffin on the gate

I dont understand all the questions , it states on the ballot , are you prepared to strike , if you have any doubts about striking your answer should be no.

Edit: also, same question for annual leave
You will get full pay if on AL. As for your day off, the Union will rotate the day of the strike each week so everyone is affected.
No,
We have a rotating day off.
If the Union rotate the day of the strike each week then the same people will be affected every week.

There is no 'legal requirement to show up at the gate, however, as a strike can be cancelled at short notice it is better to do so. It also has the added benefit of showing the level of support for the strike by employees to the Public and press.

Why on earth would that happen? There's no need for the union to rotate strike days in the same way that RM rotate days off.

Trying to think back and remember the days we were on strike last time. I'm sure it was Wednesdays, Thursdays and maybe Fridays. Can't remember it ever being a Monday, Tuesday or Saturday. Maybe some of you oldies can help the old memory here?

Yes midweek I'm sure last time, totally expecting the same again.

I can imagine Saturday being perceived as a 'weak' choice on the unions part. Although a lot of posties would like it, it is probably the least disruptive, given it not being a conventional business day. So very much doubt they'll choose Saturday. Unless they purposely go in easy to start with of course.

Exactly, I was just explaining to 'bmccoll' why the union should NOT rotate strike days in the same way that RM rotate days off.

The most effective way is to call out different parts of the workforce on different days to cause maximum disruption. You then end up with people turning up for work but there being very little work to do and RM still having to pay the work force
This was very effective in the Canadian postal dispute until Moya got the law changed ,something I think she couldn't manage in this country. :Very Happy

Best reply we can give when colleagues argue they can't afford to strike?? Cos the rest of us can cant we,I am well up for the yes vote and although I can see the bigger picture and why we need to make a stand nationally,I'm angry and fed up on a local level in my office, with lapsing, part timers doing full time hour duties, lack of training lack of management, lack of transparency, lack of a nice updated delivery office, being taken for granted, and being told this ain't the job for you any more,as I challenge everything that simply isn't right or fair or what we signed up for when we had our revision!.yes am aware things must change but it doesn't have to be railroaded through at such a pace,

we cant afford NOT to strike, also its weeks before this even happens, can people not plan to do some overtime in the next few weeks to offset the future losses if its really going to hurt them ?
