saturday 5oclock starts
Anyone got an explanation for this. Managers went around our office on sat 27th telling people that from next saturday 3rd nov we were to come in at 5am for saturdays only. said the union had pushed for it and that was that. When i asked our rep to explain why it was okay on a saturday but not the rest of the week. he said "i dont know its just one of lifes mysterys" I also asked how come the lorrys can get the mail to us for the 5am start on sat but not the rest of the week. He shrugged his shoulders and walked off. one hour later the manager's came round and said forget what we just said come in at your normal time 6-15. i swear this job is now run by people who should be in a home for the terminally stupid .

I asked the very same question last week to be met with a total blank they know but are hiding the real facts
if it's posible on saturday then there is no problems for rest of week. could it be the later flexi will be used for drivers to do collections on the way back to the office like the old days when the 12pm was done ??

ive been off but im back next week :( so suddenly by some miracle the later starts may or may not be needed on a saturday?
this is some form of appeasement i assume towards everyone being fooked off over later starts.
one thing that pisses me off (beyond a late saturday)is differing start/finish times.
i dont get the logoc of (in my office) oneday needing to start at 5.40am and the next 6.40am
s**t i remember when i 1st started i could be tied down on a saturday for not much later than 6.40!

I can't understand why anyone would want a 5 o'clock start on saturdays and 6.15 for the rest of the week.
I don't miss the 5.00 start as what other industry starts at this time of the morning? and I believe that it has a damaging effect on long term health as we are not meant to get up in the middle of the night.
The rich and the politicians would never get out of bed for a 5 o'clock start and their life expectancy is much higher than ours so why should we if we don't have to?

When we first heard of the new 0600 starts, we were told we could start at 0500 on Sat, and we tried to get a straight answer on how they could do that, since the network change has come in the mail gets in to late for a 0500 start.
Personally I'm against different start times, mainly because it a slippery slope, what if they say to you we want you to start at 0500 on mon, wed, fri and sat, isn't that the type of flexibility we are pissed off about, plsu why should I have to change the alarm clock, and what happens if you forget and crawl in at 0600, are you then on a charge?
I think we should all tell them to stuff their flexiable start times!

Personally, I think Hayes & Ward negotiated the 5am start to appease all the posties who are football fans/ hold season tickets. I am neither, so don't want to upset my body clock by having to get up an hour earlier than the rest of the week on a Saturday. I don't mind the early starts, but across the board.
Also, the mail is coming into our office at 4.45 still, so RM is paying docket so someone can open up & accept the mail. We're still getting our early shift allowance, so why can't we still come in early?
The company is f**ked!!!

Our Delivery Office is also the Mail Centre,so the mail is already there! They changed our start times from 5 to 6 and from 4.30 to 5.30 on a Saturday. There's no reason for it though as all our Rurals,City Centre and Business walks still start at their old times of 04.00! When we get in all the mails been sorted etc off IPS and all the Mech bundles are down ready and we have about 30 mins to an hour of walk sorting to do.It's a total shambles and waste of time and money

We were asked this morning if we wanted to go back to 5am starts on Saturdays, most people jumped at the chance. Alot of us bought up the usual, if we can start at 5 on a saturday why not the rest of the week.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
