Very much doubt it on the working days - I wouldn't be surprised that RM may be more inclined to delivering a few parcels on a Sunday. Especially as the bigwigs at RM seem to modelling a lot of their strategy on what they 'competition' is doing, rather than on what we should be doing.

The late starts and finishes is something which most of us don't really want or what our customer's want. I mean imagine telling your customer's, well if you want your mail before 1pm then expect to pay a premium i.e. via Special Delivery for it!! All Royal Mail are doing is giving their customers (both paying and receiving) a worst service and p**sing off us posties in the process by making us all laughing stocks for delivering in the dark after 6pm.

Why are so many posties happy to lose thousands of jobs that no Saturday delivery would cost us very selfish.

Unfortunately, I think that would fall foul of the Secondary Picketing rule that the tories outlawed. You can't have a picket line except at a place of work and supported by a ballot and official notification.
What do I know.... I'm thick! Perhaps greater minds than mine could sort something? :hmmmm

You've answered your own question there cpsteve. :Very Happy They're short-sighted selfish bastards. I bet if it was their job that was going to be made Redundant, because there wasn't a Saturday Delivery, you see some furious back-peddling then. These Posties motto is, "I'm alright Jack F you"! :cuppa

Which is why a 32 full time working week would be better for all instead of 35 or worse what we have now 39 as 32 hour week would make most if not all employed on the very same hours as they would need to level up most partime staff!

Yes, "the bigwigs at RM seem to modelling a lot of their strategy on what they 'competition' is doing, rather than on what we should be doing" but they should realise that we are a different type of business from the several large courier companies and just trying to be one of them can only hasten Royal Mail's decline. :thumbdown

This. Like this week alone. Do these other companies have to deliver Smyths toy cataloges. I have about 250 of them to deliver on my walk alone and they weigh a ton :arrrghhh

Yes, if we're the only company that delivers Smyths toy catalogues and we have something of a monopoly on such work then it should be profitable without just bothering about what all those courier companies are doing.

Royal Mail"s have not formally changed their position of wanting a 17:00 last letter finish time 6 days per week. With deliveries only being allowed out from mid-day. There is no prospect of Royal Mail not delivering on Saturdays as the peak ordering day on the internet is Friday.

This policy of Royal Mail is not really linked to later acceptance times. This policy would allow Royal Mail to have a bigger processing window which will allow them to have the multi bundle option. Read Mike Newby"s proposal on pay and your see the strings behind the pay offer.

Remember if you move the final dispatch in the mail centres you do not need the amount of hours on the late shift between 17 00 and 22 00 where a significant amount of part timers are employed and SA is performed.

This will allow Royal Mail to wait until between 90 and 95% of the work is available to sequence. For the majority of mail centres this is circa 02 00 in the morning. This will mean that work will come into delivery offices much later than the 2 hours which Royal Mail have predicted at moving start times.

It would also move area distribution from nights to early shifts and depending on the batch plan will mean bigger vehicles being used.

Royal Mail have suggested they might move from 17:00 to 16; 00 but they would want any new staff and any part time staff either made up to full time to automatically to go to 17:00 but based on 16:00 last letter deliveries would not go out until 11:00 or later depending on the multi bundles plan.

All info appreciated Dingo. :Applause I personally see this move to later deliveries as an attack on my core reason for being a Postie. I DO NOT WANT A 9-5 JOB! :speak to the hand If I did I would have taken one years ago. I believe a lot of Posties took the job knowing it might not have been a brilliant wage packet but there were other pluses. The main one being able to finish earlier than Joe Public. :hmmmm

I'm not a Royal Mail Executive (I'm not greedy enough) but if they needed to move processing times to later I'd have thought they might be able to achieve it by employing some more staff? Not wishing to pass the buck but perhaps they offer new contracts to people that might wish to work later in the day. Their processing window would be even longer then. IF we surrender the early part of the day and basically say, "We're not going to be out on Delivery until after 10.00". Our competitors are going to fill that Vacum. :arrrghhh

Obviously our Board have very short memories. I think it was them, in a previous Bullshit Exercise that was telling us all, "If we're not careful the Only People that are going to be doing our work.... are our Competitors". :cuppa

Multi bundle is a complete non starter imo

It'd never work in council estates or tenements etc

This incompetent CEO and board have actually been getting a very easy time of it thus far from shareholders despite the dismal performance of the SP... they could now, hopefully, get a long overdue kicking.
It's because the dividends have been decent and the share price hasn't yet fallen below what most investors paid for it (even inflation-adjusted).

However as a strike will directly impact on dividends and share price, I suspect the reason dear Moya was recently filmed on the verge of tears is because she knows the aforesaid kicking will be on its way faster than you can say EasyJet.

Well if Royal Mail's policy is not really linked to later acceptance times, how then is the company now offering a better service to its customers?? :hmmmm

Ah yes, the holy grail of one wave of mech which will probably arrive that much later so we can't go out and deliver anything until after noon. At least that will stop all those daft posties who come in early and give Royal Mail hours of walk-sorting for free!

Everyone's a winner!!
