I fully believe your examples and I've even seen some of it myself, but I'm willing to bet that is the unfortunate experience of a minority of users. Just as most people who drink alcohol can do so without becoming an alcoholic. A lot of people have been killed through others driving under the influence; but we made operating a vehicle while drunk illegal, not alcohol. The difference, if any exists, is that alcohol has a longer social history and is tolerated on that basis.

The problem I've come across with weed is that a lot of long-term smokers spend most of the day stoned. That's a problem, only an alcoholic would reach for a drink before breakfast but it's "acceptable" to have a wee toke before work, pop out for a smoke at lunch and whereas any amount of alcohol and driving is now seen as unacceptable to most sane people, of the cannabis users I know ( many) all of them consider it ok to drive under the influence of "a wee smoke or two".

You can be addicted to things that are not particularly dangerous...even exercise but an addiction is a mental health issue no matter what your substance of choice is.

We can smell cannabis most days here, managers just say sort it,have even seen suspicious packets with powder leaking out of it and the managers do not know what to do,they walk about the office with it and even touch it

Maybe if these 2 got round a table and had a few spliffs the world wouldn't be such a dangerous place as long as they had a fridge full of snacks
