It is so true that if you have your own, good duty, the job is so much better.
Floaters and reserves have got it so hard, especially in today's workplace, with today's mail-types, and today's rules.
It's so easy - lazy, even - to assume, "he's a good lad, and he's a pain" , when really the case is very often "his duty is fine, and his is not".
There is so much to be said for knowing exactly what you are doing everyday, where you are going, and all of the little "tricks" that come from continuity of duty. It almost becomes a different job once you are in that position, compared to being thrown around as just a "body".
I feel sorry for reserves and floats in my area. And to those senior duty holders that say, "I was a reserve once too you know" - being a floater twenty years ago and one today is nothing like the same.

I hear what you're saying OnAFlyer. I worked in another DO for a while and it was common practice. They'd pull out the mail they were taking that day and bundle it up. Then they'd pull out what remained, keeping in walk order, and bundle that up. Then next day it was already walk sorted ready to be put back into the frame. I might add this was Before Mech Sorted mail so it saved a lot of time. I not saying I condon this type of thing, but people will get away with what you let them get away with.OnAFlyer wrote:Ours isn't actually so bad now. We're way past the point of struggling, the managers have given up because there's no hope of covering the walks so everyone streams as much as they need to get finished on time. Yes it's piss poor by RM and shouldn't be happening, but that's not our fault.

We either just pull out what we're taking and leave the rest in the frame, or take it all out and stream it out on the walk (which is my preferred way as it's easier to judge). Until a few months ago we literally never streamed in our office, now it happens all the time.Dorset Plodder wrote:I hear what you're saying OnAFlyer. I don't stream but have been asked to by managers before - 'only take what's important', one said.
Hah! None of it looked important to me so I just took the top 3 rows.

It's embarrassing to be honest, or it was at first but now I couldn't care less. It's RM's fault not mine. I work my hours and go home.k979aaa wrote:Smacks of running the service down don't you all think it's piss poor declined management and the book stops with MOYA GREENE she goosed the Canadian posties she sure is not going to doing it to us LET'S HAVE SOME CANADIAN BACON WITH THAT TURKEY IN CHARGE FOR CHRISTMAS!
I don't know how Moya gets these massive pay rises - she's led the company out of the FTSE100, crippled the service (though 'officially' it won't look that way as the stuff we are judged by - SD's, Tracked, 1st class etc gets done or at least fiddled), disengaged the workforce whose morale is at an all-time low, and brought them to the brink of a big union dispute.

To be honest its not too bad in my office (about 80-100 deliveries). The managers are either useless or decent and couldnt bully a fly. Most duties finish just about on time and you get paid if you go over. Always overtime on offer if you want it covering lapsed that hasnt gobe or sick leave. The only ones who moan are the ones who feel theyre hard done to so drag their heels and goes hours over everday. Then look daft when somone covers them on annual leave, and we arent talking runners, far from it

Well when ONE PLAN comes in it will be the lowest cost offices dictating what your office does and if your managers are not up to cost savings then they will be replaced by guess who the time for saying I am alright jack are done! The time for sitting on the fence are done it's no time for splinters in the arse anymore you either vote for a vision and security or share holders values being that we only have 913 each instead of 300 million of them it's your choice!citypostie wrote:To be honest its not too bad in my office (about 80-100 deliveries). What are you waffling about? I'm voting for strike action, always have. Just saying the morale in my office is generally alright apart from a few who make their own lives miserable and constantly moan. As for top performing offices, in our area we are pretty good. I'm sure our managers could bully people if they wanted to, but others have tried it and come unstuckk979aaa wrote:Well when ONE PLAN comes in it will be the lowest cost offices dictating what your office does and if your managers are not up to cost savings then they will be replaced by guess who the time for saying I am alright jack are done!
