When they say new shift patterns for new starters
i take it thats not the 5pm letter last letter that
i keep hearing about?
would that be for everyone?
just a couple of people in our office seem to think only new starters will be working later!

In 2008 I thought that the move to a part time workforce meant that the pension changes wouldn't have too much effect, many only staying for a couple of years and never even claiming it.stevenshm wrote:just a couple of people in our office seem to think only new starters will be working later!
How wrong I was and now we are all facing having our terms dropped to the lowest standard.
The same thing will happen again and again - what is 'only for new starters' will soon become a division to conquer.

To be clear, it's not just new starters!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

To be fair, we (those who voted yes!)screwed over the newbies when we voted (can't rem what agreement it was)for them to not get sick pay in the 1st year.

Yes to ending of defined benefit to new starters in 2008.
Some new starters on 20 hours contract over 5 days and being reserves with very few Saturdays off...
We also agreed to privatisation and took shares...
Other examples...
The CWU are not going to fight for all - it is unrealistic to expect them to; otherwise we will be out for months fighting g to bring back defined benefit pension scheme...
You do the same job, then you should have the same benefits; not just pay rate.
Schofield and Willoughby now on same salary despite Schofield having done the same job for decades and has carried the programme in many ways.
Just like saying people under certain ages should get less despite doing the same job.
Come back and tell us when the CWU has stopped new shift patterns for new starters or when they introduce owner drivers and when they stop RM exploiting part timers and no upgrading anyone else to full time or when holiday pay reflects average hours worked over a certain period... A

If RM were to bring in the one wave then it could potentially be 5pm first letter rather than 5pm last letter.stevenshm wrote:When they say new shift patterns for new starters

Can someone please explain why part time 20 hour a week staff should support a strike??
All we have heard so far only seems to apply to full time staff.
We need the full facts please.

Furthermore, the real sticking point is now the Pension because the Union has already won on some major issues and they cannot really win or stop further modernisation and cost cutting g - they really cannot justify going against more productivity and flexibility in a changing and diminishing market.
So why should anyone in the Defined Contribution since 2008 vote to lose pay for the same people that abandoned them or could not care much about them in the last big dispute?
Cake and eating it comes to mind...

This is exactly why RM want new starters on inferior conditions and / or part time contracts. Eventually, the workforce would reach 51% part-timers and they would ask the same question you are ALREADY asking !!!Angardstaffing wrote:Can someone please explain why part time 20 hour a week staff should support a strike??

In my opinion, the CWU should get back to the table to include specifics for part timers and protections for new starters...
The minimum should be that holiday pay, bonuses and all.pro-rata benefits should be linked to average hours worked overall. That should slow down the rise of use of and reliance on part time staff.
However, I am sorry to say that most of the people in the Union only really care about themselves.
The answer to the part timer's question is not addressed by the current dispute; so why are you pushing the question back to the part timer? What is the Union, clearly and specifically going to do about the exploitation of part timers and the possible exploitation of new starters?
CWU poster yesterday says nothing - Four Pillars of what? Not explained clearly what it is about, what it ain't.s to achieve in specific terms. Disappointing they did not even mention their successes and concessions by RM... Head shake...
* RM on the other hand gave shares based on average hours worked by part timers to catch all with their sweetener for privatisation... Played!
