I know what you mean but from memory that was a RM thing not a USO thing, one delivery a working day is what we have to do, just like one collection a day, even though some collections are at 9 in the morning!Acca Dacca wrote:Anyone able to confirm?Acca Dacca wrote:Doesn't the regulator set latest MAIL delivery times?
Isn't it 3pm town an 4pm rural or something?
I guess they godda send a letter, possibly email as it's faster, maybe snapchat text or whatsapp to OFCOM and change a webpage or two.
OFCOM wrote:Royal Mail determines its own collection and delivery times. Collection and delivery times are not regulated by Ofcom.
However, Royal Mail is required to notify Ofcom of any changes to its latest delivery times and to publish the changes on its website.
Royal Mail aims to complete deliveries by 3pm in urban areas and by 4pm in rural areas.
Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by these times and Royal Mail endeavours to maintain this every working day, but daily volume variations, transport disruptions and operating issues mean that there may be some occasions when these times are not met.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The mail/parcels all has to be processed and trunked to site together. You start splitting things up it'll cost even more than it does now.
The split would come at the DO.

No the regulator set the fact that every address has to have one delivery per day. No timings are written into any directive by the regulator.Acca Dacca wrote:Anyone able to confirm?Acca Dacca wrote:Doesn't the regulator set latest MAIL delivery times?

Royal Mail currently sets the last letter times and when they do move them, there is no need to change any law or directive.

Mail centres are processing items which are then sent to DOs. Does it not then cost even more when DOs are splitting packets to go out on a letter delivery (thin packet that'll go through letter boxes), and large packets for later delivery meaning that the overall cost of processing and delivering each item goes up too. But on the other hand you've got Royal Mail telling us the business needs to be competitive.

So nobody fancies a lie in every day? C'mon guys this is a great deal. We'll get an extra few hours in bed and there is only a few negative aspects of rush hour traffic, never picking your kids from school, extra parcels on our rounds and a reduced pension. This is a no brainer for me

"splitting packets to go out on a letter delivery" is only speculation and it's unlikely to happen because two deliveries cost more than one deliveryScousePostie wrote:Mail centres are processing items which are then sent to DOs. Aren't they going to be sequencing these in with the Mail anyway?ScousePostie wrote:Mail centres are processing items which are then sent to DOs. I am very confused about all this later start time stuff!!
Royal Mail keep saying they want to be the best and not give wk away to competition
I appreciate that a 'later in 'the day parcel delivery may increase business but what about all the
Potential morning business that will be given away because we won t be out on duties till around mid day
Let alone the time it takes to deliver in the pitch black or are we going to have search lights so we can see where we're walking possible other problems would be injuries on duty as more likely to trip etc!

No sign of any new machines in MCs so probably no chance within the next year. If anything the % sequenced is probably going to drop at some point with staffing cut to the bone and the CSS machines seem to be breaking down a lot more often nowThe Postman wrote:Aren't they going to be sequencing these in with the Mail anyway?ScousePostie wrote:Mail centres are processing items which are then sent to DOs. It sounds like a compromise but I can imagine that we will have some guys who will be doing those later finishes to "capture those parcels". Why everyone would suddenly need to work till 7pm just doesn't stack up though because letters are different - unless Royal Mail are still hankering after their one wave idea - which some suspect that is what they are after.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I've had packets from DHL and DPD lately and looking at the tracking they're not going out the door now until about 10/11am. With one business I ordered from the cutoff being 9pm.
So clearly there is a big change happening. I can understand because people sitting at home want to order something in the evening, go to bed, and have it when they come home from work the next day.
