It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I have taken ten weeks paid leave together before now. You need to put a request in writing explaining what you are planning on doing and ask to save your leave up to take all at the same time. You are only meant to be able to carry one weeks leave over to the next leave year but you can carry more over under certain circumstances which includes taking an extended holiday.

Spoke to my manager today and he said that 10 weeks off shouldn't be a problem. I have to put it in writing. But because it's for charity he said he can't see any problems with my request. Thankyou for all you advice. Also i got my pay slip today, and because I was getting 5 weeks pay. They forgot about the strikes, so thats 4 days free pay. Its a good day today.

Royal mail sports foundation do sponsorship. They pay out quarterly so even if not succesful at 1st keep trying. Details are on Royalmail.com or in tHe Courier.

They sponsored a boys football team that I used to run - they have set budget and try to help all people applying. They will ask how much you need, try adding about 30% on and then you should get somewhere near the total you need.

Best of luck.

Don't the teams they sponsor have to have Royal Mail on the kit? I heard about this a couple of years ago, so approached a local firm to sponsor our rugby team. Fecked if I wanted to see the lads running onto the pitch with that across their chests.
