Bishops Itchington villagers in plea to keep their trusted postman on his round

Villagers in Bishops Itchington are trying desperately to ensure their current postman is kept on his round.

Dave Madden has received praise from several villagers for his friendly manner and efficiency.

They have taken to the Bishop’s Itchington Community public Facebook page to express their concern that Mr Madden could be taken off the round and replaced - which can happen if, like in this case, another postman wants to apply to take it on after a few years.

One villager, Rose Scott said: “He’s the most efficient postie we have had in years, he cares about people, keeps an eye out for the elderly, he’s very polite and loves his job.”

Another, Hazel Bulyka, added: “I certainly wouldn’t want to be the person who is taking over from him as he or she has a very hard act to follow. “The Post Office should listen to its customers and leave Dave where he is. “He is the best postie ever.”

Not only have the villagers grown very fond of Mr Madden but they are also worried a postman who has less or no experience of the round might make mistakes. Sheldon Overs said: “It’s clear when he goes away as we all suddenly get others’ post and don’t get parcels. “So not only is he the nicest postie ever he also is great at the job.”

Mr Madden is not on Facebook but his daughter Bronya has responded to the posts on the village page and said: “My dad really does appreciate all the support and kindness you all show towards him. “They’ve said that they’ll keep him on the round at least up until Christmas time and then may review it afterwards.” Villagers are considering starting a petition to send to the Royal Mail to help Mr Madden keep the round and they have also written to the company in support of the postman.

Sounds like Dave does a lot of favour's for his customers.
It only takes something to go wrong/missing and for someone to complain and poor old Dave is facing a disciplinary.

It's not completely up to Dave as there is usually a repick every few years, if he is senior enough he should get it, imagine in another office if a favourite was placed in a walk overiding the seniority process, the office would kick up a fuss about it.

While it's nice to be appreciated, ultimately it's not up to the residents who they have on the walk.

You must be extremely naive then.
We all know what goes on, especially on rural deliveries.
They only like you if you do favours for them. Do the job properly and you're frowned upon. Might be different now, with leaving the packet next door.
Slightly off topic but it shows what can happen with favours.
I was delivering to a house many years ago and gave the post to the guy on the drive, I thought I knew them well as I had been posting to them for quite a while.
We have a little chat and as we do, he opened a letter and had a quick read before putting it back in the envelope.
I carry on my delivery and he posts the letters through his letterbox before getting in his car and driving off.
We all know what's going to happen next and it does. The woman phones up my office and complains that I have opened her post.
I never got an apology off the woman.

I'm more familiar than most with rural deliveries and know there are 'favours' that don't risk the mail going missing and 'favours' that do risk the mail going missing.
Maybe Dave, like me, does the 'favours' that don't risk the mail going missing but not the 'favours' that do risk the mail going missing.
