unite the managers union should be telling them not to do any opgs work and working with the cwu , because it wasn't long ago they had a ballot on the new pension deal and it was a NO thanks , but what have they done since ? jack s**t because they have no balls to ballot for I/A , mind you they wouldn't be missed if they did .

We have a 1970s style management structure with 1970s style managers wearing 1970s style Primark shirts and ties and barking 1970s style command and control orders to bully the staff.bitterpill wrote:Taking a 1970s style approach will not get you anywhere
In most cases when a business fails it's because management have failed to adapt and evolve, not the staff.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Management shouldn't be doing any OPG work unless in the case of unforeseen absence.
This whole business of getting managers prepping lapsed walks is unacceptable, even heard of managers on the IPS daily, those hours could be used to pay a PTer.

Well done in one single phrase you have made us all aware of how little you understand the current dispute, in fact, you haven't even bothered to research it when we have positions of both the Company and the Union available on here.bitterpill wrote:Taking a 1970s style approach will not get you anywhere
I don't mind people airing opposing views, but I at least prefer them to be honestly held and well informed. A trite and over used one liner is neither.

I don't think there would be any rule in employment law restricting management from performing tasks usually performed by postmen/women. If postmen/women stopped working then I think it would be them that would be more likely to fall foul of employment law as they would be in breach of their contract.world class male wrote:now i''m not 100% certain , but always lead to believe that any management cannot do our work, even down to pushing empty yorks out, but can do delivery at a last resort.
if so, why don't then cwu publish a memo instructing us to stop working until the management stop doing our jobs?
we currently lapse a certain walk where a manager preps most of it, the rest are throwing mail in all over the place and prepping d2d for the other lapsed duties

Have you missed the point? Our jobs are under threat and RM are not negotiating. We may soon have no choice but to risk striking because we will lose anyway.bitterpill wrote:I was an OPG for many years and got out of the business a few years ago.
It's time you people realised that striking will not protect your jobs infact it willhave the opposite effect
And as for managers doing your jobs..they've been doing them for years. The only way forward is by dialect and common sense. That way all parties will hopefully teach agreement

"striking will not protect your jobs" but without striking we will have jobs not worth protecting.bitterpill wrote:I was an OPG for many years and got out of the business a few years ago.

Never work Royal Mail don't want to understand " dialect" Diktat is the only language they understand!clashcityrocker wrote:Do you mean the negotiators should put on regional accents?bitterpill wrote: The only way forward is by dialect
Or does Marxist dialectics explain the current impasse?
I prefer the first:

Still don't buy any of this 'someone else will do our work'. Nobody wants to deliver small parcels and letters, they can't make any money from it and they've tried plenty of times. The letters market is in decline regardless of whether we strike or not, its all we hear from Royal mail all year round. Most of the letters we deliver now are obviously from parties that see some value in direct written access into people's homes and so I don't believe they are going anywhere, strike or no strike. The small parcels market has to be delivered with letters as it wouldn't be profitable as standalone deliveries.
Deliveries are still a monopoly and they will be still going long after we have gone. All the power in any strike is with deliveries......

I would say you are wrong in that what if RM are deliberately trying to end the USO and the letters part of the business by making it irrelevant because of the time of last letter also would add you are wrong in the power in strikes we all have our part to play and no one is the best or worst.banner wrote:Still don't buy any of this 'someone else will do our work'.
