MRM.COM : What about later delivery times?
It can be done but it is trying to be done on the cheap using existing workers not by employing more drivers. We keep getting the we pay more card coming out but no other delivery people do four hours walking day in day out, we are the ones who have the health issues that this causes, i think we can work things out but for sure it needs more staff and a better understanding of the postmans job from the people who come out with these ideas.

4 hours? That's a good day in our office most of the time it's 5 and 6 hours out on deliver . Now is the time to all vote yes for industrial action to try and stop this nonsense

Yes, it's years since I've done a delivery in four hours.lee trigger wrote:4 hours? That's a good day in our office most of the time it's 5 and 6 hours out on deliver . Now is the time to all vote yes for industrial action to try and stop this nonsense
It's five hours normally and up to six on busy days and seven in December.

MRM.COM : What about later delivery times?
I sent an email with my thoughts on the Royal Mail talks a few weeks back. I said that I thought a good idea would be posties out of delivery from 6am. That way we would be catching the majority of people before they leave for work. Of course, we'll miss some as our delivery span will go past 8:30am when most people have left for work. Managers are constantly drumming into us, we must deliver 'first time, every time'. I firmly believe that being out earlier in the morning that 'first time' delivery would go through the roof.Phantom wrote:The majority of people arrive home from work between 5-6:30pm - if we are delivering till half 4 or 5 then we will still miss them - Parcels need to be delivered from 7am in order to catch people in. Business mail also needs to be delivered early before the working day starts or just after. Later deliveries will push businesses on to email or other forms of communication ( I do think this is Royal Mails plan as it would then allow them to shrink the business).
I deliver to a lot of businesses and people who work from home who have had no choice but to use other forms of communication because Royal Mail can't deliver early enough like we use to.
The board are a f***ing shambles!!!
See reply from CWU about this below.
Thanks for your continued support with regard to our stance with the employer. We have raised the issue of pushing the delivery window later in the day repeatedly as part of the national talks that we have been engaged in for the last 4 weeks. We have also raised the issue of the company abandoning the early part of the day and surrendering that to the competitors – we believe that as well as the normal current delivery window, we could do things outside of that both earlier and later – but not everyone! The problems arise due to the changes in the home shopping market, people wanting to order later and still have next day delivery as standard.
The company vision on the above is to retard the arrival patterns of mail into delivery offices until much later in the day in some instances, therefore either creating a fully part time workforce or making our members deliver later – we have argued most vociferously against both of these positions, accusing them of no ambition and all about cost savings. We do recognise that the market has changed and is ever evolving – but we don’t believe that we need to become slaves to the shareholders at the expense of your jobs and terms and conditions. We are not arguing for a 6am delivery – there has never been such a thing for many years – if ever. The Letter Post Plan used to be 1st delivery 0700-0930.
There is no doubt that some items will arrive late into offices as a result of the Latest Arrival Time being made later for companies – but once again that does not mean all items need to be. We are on the right side of these arguments for sure and will continue to argue that way. You are right, we are unique from any other competitor and they can’t compete with what we do – we need to shout that from the rooftops and continue to defend what we have. With your support we can do that.

I think royal mail wants people to leave so they don't have to pay redundancy.
We will all be working 10.00 till 6.00pm very soon. Maybe later.
They know exactly where to kick us. Posties don't like the idea of working later.
If you cant Hack It Jack It. Royal Mail Win Win all the way. Those that leave will
be replaced by more part timers, Then eventually agency staff.

Exactly my thoughts I have stated before that RM want the full timers out without paying them out saying that your post is spot on I'm afraid to say.gosickwithstress wrote:I think royal mail wants people to leave so they don't have to pay redundancy.

It is probably fair to say that a lot of managers either won't want it or like it, unless they do even less than they do now.i.e. turn up at noon & gone at 3pm

if catching late parcels is so important for Royal Mail for next day delivery then they will need to have van driving duties from lunchtimes, and maybe use those collection staff instead of making all the postal deliveries staff start later.

How can one person, for each address, do everything from Special Deliveries by 1pm ( or 9am ) to parcels accepted at the National Distribution Centre by midnight ?

If RM do move the pipeline back a couple of hours then they might as well axe 9am specials as they would have near enough a 100% fail rateLounge Lizard wrote:Exactly,Darren Bent wrote:if catching late parcels is so important for Royal Mail for next day delivery then they will need to have van driving duties from lunchtimes, and maybe use those collection staff instead of making all the postal deliveries staff start later.

Space why ? When we had two deliveries we still had data post and timed deliveries as bespoke services and we would still have specials as bespoke in the future. All your doubts about Royal Mail's plans have no bearing on their strategy which needs to be defeated.

How do you expect them not to fail when if the pipeline gets moved back a couple of hours, many DOs wouldn't get them till after 9?dingo wrote:Space why ?
