Clock has stopped Terry Pullinger DGSP gives an update on this weeks talks - it is time to mobilise like never before
If Royal Mail do delay the mail deliveries, isn't that handing a golden opportunity to their competitors to offer a prompt, morning mail delivery service?! At the moment Royal mail have pretty much a monopoly on letters, and the revenue from that must count for a fair bit, whatever they claim. Why would they throw that away by deliberately offering such an obviously worsening service to the customers when now any competitors can just step in, do a better job and take that business? Its baffling how they come up with this short-sighted stuff.

Then, how can the union stop this Dingo ? ....it`s royal mail operation ....if they decide to change it ...what can we do ??

RM will need to decide how they are going to deal with 9am specials as if the pipeline is move back 2 hours, the 9am specials will then ALWAYS fail.dingo wrote:Royal Mail's latest position on the pipeline is that they want a 17:00 last letter but no delivery to go out until Mid-day and this would result in the Mail centre's dispatch times moving backwards as well.
Waiting until 95% of the mail is available will backfire on RM as it will result in a CUT in the amount that we sequence, it'll be either that or we walk sort instead of sequence or some walks and/or offices won't get any sequencing. Using IMPs/iLSMs won't be an option if the mail is busy or if the busier offices currently get their mail sequenced on an iLSM or an IMP

I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once more able to defend our island home (Winston Churchill, 4th June 1940).

If this is true (and I have no reason to doubt what you say) why are the higher echelons of RM management unaware of this? BTW what are ILSM and IMP?SpacePhoenix wrote: Waiting until 95% of the mail is available will backfire on RM as it will result in a CUT in the amount that we sequence, it'll be either that or we walk sort instead of sequence or some walks and/or offices won't get any sequencing. You have to remember this is a cost saving exercise. They have modelled it via auto Miss in every Mail Centre and the second 5% would be walk sorted.
By not having a final dispatch at the current time and by moving going out times on delivery allows for a much bigger processsing window which has always in the past been a pinch point for Royal Mail.

Last letter at 1700?
"Sorry lino, we need to claim additional overtime because we got caught in rush hour traffic driving back to the depot!"
2+ hours of delivery in the dark and freezing temperatures during Xmas pressure!

Everyone likes their mail early in the day but there's not a big demand for that, otherwise Special Deliveries would account for more than 1% of the items we deliver.
I doubt "handing a golden opportunity to their competitors to offer a prompt, morning mail delivery service" unless TNT will bring back their bikes to parts of London, Liverpool and Manchester - but even when they did that it wasn't for urgent mail.

Why are they not telling us that dingo, they don't seem to be shy in communicating what won't be changing but surely such a huge shift in the core delivery operation would deserve at least a mention. Has the logistics of such a change been scoped out? The effect of traffic at that time of night, walking the streets at that time of night, the impact on family commitments? Any serious work been done to see if this "position" is even feasible or is it just another plunge into the unknown where we have to clean up the mess afterwards?dingo wrote:Royal Mail's latest position on the pipeline is that they want a 17:00 last letter.
They're not a very professional bunch are they?

The propaganda being drilled into us on the PDAs and RMTV is very selective, trying to make the gullible/uninformed wonder why we are likely to be striking nationally for the first time since ~November 2009.fishtank wrote:Why are they not telling us that dingo, they don't seem to be shy in communicating what won't be changing but surely such a huge shift in the core delivery operation would deserve at least a mention. Fish I am not sure why they are not telling us. However the mantra is best pay , best pension , best job etc what they not sating is that they are not offering any pay rise , they are closing the pension scheme and they want to change the pipeline to allow them to cut costs.
They want to change the last letter to 17:00 and delay going out times until around the middle of the day depending on the delivery span. BY doing this they can change the processing window and in particular the late shift which has always been a tight fit due to firms closing , the arrival pattern of Mail and the final dispatch time. This has meant late shifts have traditional had a large percentage of part timers employed from 17:00.
IF the delivery window went back 2 hours and deliveries did not go out untIl around mid-day than Royal Mail believe they can automate more but also reduce costs throughout the pipeline.
They know it is unpopular. Will they move their position ? Well they have not thus far.
THe CWU's position is that we have the words in BT2010 which states the last letter for urban deliveries is 15:00 but the vast majority will finish by 14:30 and most by 14:00. THe CWU also are insisting that current going out on delivery times remain. The CWU have stated that if there are growth opportunities than we will work to ensure we delivery these as in the latest Amazon direct injection trial but there is no need to compulsory change start times for everyone.
UNless Royal Mail move on pensions , pay and their flawed version of the pipeline than we are going to have a dispute.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
