Seniority - 1970's noncense dragging the company down.
In this case, useless postie and useless manger. Blows that out of the water. :d'oh!

Again

What if person with more seniority had never been asked? What if they had a floater so weren't required to work day off through no fault of their own? What if manager simply didn't like him/her personally so never offered OT?

Its not black n white
Well that's really a separate issue. If people want overtime and overtime is available and they are never offered it, the union can and should raise that.

The law, however, is not designed to address such matters, it is designed to reward the specific individual who has consistently worked a certain number of hours above their contracted hours for six months or more.

Conflation of these things is understandable in a way, but it's not right.

If people want increased hours e.g wants to be full time, then they are usually the type that do overtime, work their days off and go a little beyond. That is what happens in the real world and RM is now a private company.

On issues of discrimination and favouritism, that still happens in many other ways; and the so-called seniority perpetuates massive discriminations...

It is hard for me to believe that someone is never asked to do overtime or work their days - never? Impossible!

After our revision, we had seniors on 30 hour contracts sitting on easier walks, they were never interested in becoming full time because they would have been Reserves. After, revision, they jumped at being full time denying all those that have put in the hours and efforts.

Some have since gone back to part time, job share, left and others remaining as full time are being carried in IPS, not double prepping cos they are useless and many having long term sick.

If this was your business, who will you make full time?

Since revision, we have a full time now that has been with a RM for a long time but always as a part time 30 hours. 5 years on being a full time, he is the slowest, a nightmare to work with - fags break, sitting on benches, chatting to all and sundry and you have to go and help him finish or late everyday and then hassle from manager.

This guy was on one of the easiest prior to revision, he also lived on the walk and used a bike - never driven.

What he has done is to go and knacker his body and joints just because of seniority. He might have to go soon with so many time off sick and constant pain.

If the Union and posties are serious about fear of discrimination from managers then they should pursue all discrimination and favouritism, including the unfairness of being a Reserve.

But people only moan about discrimination when it does not favour them...
