Not so sure that's correct. . . . . we haven't accepted the offer so we are still in the same period of industrial action and therefore the mandate for strike action remains in force . . . . . . perhaps someone with a deeper understanding of the legalities could answer this one ?

The dispute is still live and current so there would be no need to ballot

I understand that when regional reps went to Wimbledon this week, and entered the room, the top table had their heads down, and that only one of them spoke in favour. The PE know it is a bad deal.

If my region recommends a YES, I am seriously considering leaving the Union, as are many, and I believe our region knows this. Bristol solidly supported the strike. There was, IIRC, 84% backing the strike in that ballot. To lose 2 weeks pay to be offered this deal is an absolute insult. There are many, including myself, who have made our views clear. Our branch is considering its recommendation on Monday.

This is a very dangerous situation. The local CWU knows it will lose many members over this, if the deal is accepted nationally, and that the union will be sunk, as will posties. It is all over, and I believe things will get even more messier in the immediate future, as the business makes things so unacceptable as far as working conditions are concerned, to make people leave, and hence not have to pay-out redundancies.

zaphod, all I can say to you is don't leave the union. We need people with a bit of bottle and as much as I despair of the CWU and some of the people leading it at times, good union men and women leaving will be exactly what the bosses want.

Our branch is telling us to accept the deal, but i wont be

However striking at xmas would not be a good idea we would lose all public support
A strike a day after boxing day would be well supported i bet

While I agree with you, and where you are coming from, Fellow Worker, the CWU needs to be sent a message. We already have a number of operatives here who left the CWU, and went to the T&GW. I, from my viewpoint, do not intend to be with the business too much longer, EVR and buy-down permitting. If there's no chance of getting those, I think I be leaving anyway, having first started in 1981.

The business intends to make things nastier, and less tolerable for its workforce, IMHO, and I would not want to be any part of it, as an employee, or union rep.

Basically, we are all fecked.

I understand your feelings Zaphod but pulling out of the union isn't the way to deal with it. In fact the easy option is always to just walk away from the problem innit? You know full well that every union official is voted on and can be voted off. OK it takes time but ask yourself who will benefit if there are mass resignations from the CWU. I've been a rep for years and thankfully only have a few years to go but I intend to fight the bastards till the carry me out kicking and screaming.

western counties (also south west)branch are meeting next tue and thur and im attending and i be urging our branch to recommend a no vote and been speaking to other reps from branch and they feel the same

this part of the south west the feeling is VERY different

i just read the above post (now deleted)and sorry if i missed it but it clearly states your branch meeting next week to decide a recommendation

so sorry you are wrong in stating that your branch and the south west (theres more than one branch in the south west) are recommending a yes vote
