Alternative Industrial Action?
How many offices are ran on overtime big time? Most of our office are working there day off ,many have done it for years . Sorters coming in early , etc . Surely even nobody working there day off would make a huge impact ! If we do nothing we will end up like the rest of them .

If there is one major difference between Royal Mail and the CWU, then at least the Union will always exactly tell you how it is.
The only real alternative to industrial action towards Royal Mail is the threat of industrial action. Nothing else is going to work. Working to time and/or leaving loops will make no difference at all. Overtime ban... Are you kidding me?? We got managers going out doing deliveries now.

Actually, compared to the previous strikes since RMC started I get the impression that the support for a strike is the strongest its been. A few flying anti-pickets I admit, but not as many as in 2010.

I'm not bottling it. I just remember the strikes of the past and this strike has to surpass that to get the message through. With that in mind we will be most effective in the weeks leading up to Xmas. Personally, I don't think that it is commercial suicide at all bearing in mind everything that Royal Mail are after like longer deliveries, later starts, more automation, job losses, pension cuts etc. etc. Royal Mail are in a very healthy position and have made good operational profits so far - so why would they jeopardise all that for the sake of being too greedy?? Because that is what it is.

75/25 ratio Full to Part-time - Assuming 39 to 20 hours .korky wrote:this is what's wrong with the company and union and both failed massivelykingeric wrote:rambo1 wrote:Postie45 wrote:the major issues is that part timers are not being given full time jobs. They are being asked to do overtime every day instead. So an overtime ban will only hurt part timers.
apparently agreements in place are/were a ratio of ft to pt across the company, 75/25 i think, i wonder what it is today?
My query is that some part-timers are only working a 16 hour shift. Is the 75/25 ratio calculated as people or hours? .
Also if Full Time agency workers are being employed on a regular basis, how are these staff/hours used in the equation.

There is no 75/25 ratio agreement.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Job Security, Resourcing and Managing Change A National Agreement between Royal Mail and
Communication Workers’ Union
3. Royal Mail Resourcing and Managing Change Principles
The following principles represent Royal Mail’s approach to resourcing and will be applied throughout the business:
3.1 The overall resourcing model for Royal Mail’s ongoing business strategy and its operations will continue to be predominantly full time supported by part time employees. The overall national mix is expected to continue to be three quarters full time and one quarter part time.
3.4 Agency workers are intended to cover short term or unforeseen resourcing needs expected to last for periods of no more than 12 weeks, which cannot be covered by offering additional earnings opportunities to existing employees whilst maintaining quality of service. In the rare circumstances that employment exceeds 12 weeks the comparable pay provisions of the agency workers’ regulations will apply.

sadly the Legal Agreement for the Agenda for Growth has this in it which superseded the BT2010 one
The overall resourcing model for the Company’s ongoing business strategy and its operations will continue to be based predominantly on full time employment supported by part time employment. The agreed resourcing mix will be reviewed annually and the Company will provide the CWU with quarterly data establishing the actual resourcing mix at a national and regional level.

TBT . Thanks for the clarification, I stand corrected. I understand the word "predominately" would still be interpreted as a majority of Full Time.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:sadly the Legal Agreement for the Agenda for Growth has this in it which superseded the BT2010 one

The Agenda for Growth still maintains;
(D) Agency workers are intended to cover short term or
unforeseen resourcing needs, expected to last for periods of
no more than 12 weeks, which cannot be covered by offering
additional hours to existing employees whilst maintaining
quality of service. In the rare circumstances that employment
exceeds 12 weeks the provisions of the Agency Workers
Regulations 2010 (as amended) will apply.
I cannot see the reason Agency are continuously used as a resource while Part-Time hours are not increased. After being on a six month contract, reduced in May to a one month rolling, A significant number are working overtime hours. Which should mean the following applies;
(G) The level of part time Employees’ contracted hours will be
reviewed by the Company and the CWU locally on a six
monthly basis. Where appropriate, increased contracted
hours will be offered to reflect the hours actually worked and planned.

What we need is something to work our hours and don't help out by working week/day off or do overtime. We need something to allow us to earn money and protest.

I neither work my days off nor do overtime. How do you suggest that I "protest". I know, I'll go out on strike while you carry on earning a full wage minus your overtime. Like a said in an earlier post people will bottle it.Darren Bent wrote:What we need is something to work our hours and don't help out by working week/day off or do overtime. If rolling strikes happen, try being a logistics driver who wont cross a picket line. That's serious money loss.barrychuckle wrote:I neither work my days off nor do overtime. People need to get their head out of the sand and understand that official strike action is the safest route when it comes to industrial action. I'm about to loose over £7000 a year on pensions alone, that's £140 a week.
If the CWU negotiators can get anywhere near the WINRS pension, then a little money lost today will pale into insignificance to what I'll receive when I retire.
We also have to think about the youngsters joining the industry who are not as strong, mentally as us yet. We are their backbone and we should always fight for everybody.

It won't work Royal Mail have a simple policy during work to rules which cause a back log they suspend individuals. If work to rules worked or overtime bans we would have never ever taken strike action before.Darren Bent wrote:What we need is something to work our hours and don't help out by working week/day off or do overtime.
