Union Supports Youth Suicide Charity

THE Communication Workers Union (CWU) has teamed up with a charity which supports young people facing mental health problems.

The union is working with Papyrus, which specialises in the prevention of youth suicides, in order to raise awareness of the work that it does.

The charity provides support to young people and anyone fearing a young person may be at risk of killing themselves.

CWU national equality officer Linda Roy said: “As a trade union, it’s right that we support Papyrus to raise awareness of the issues, reduce stigma, and to encourage young people in crisis to seek help before they reach a tipping point.”

The charity’s chief executive Ged Flynn said: “Together we can reach out to more young people at risk of suicide — and save young lives.”

The union is also set to support World Suicide Participation Day on September 10 and the HOPEWalk in Liverpool in October.
Suicide is the main cause of death for under-35s, with more than 1,600 people taking their own lives every year.
