I agree Tomolo, if this came in it is likely that RM's delivery model would change; obviously for their benefit.
We've seen these tactics everywhere lately from Brexit to Trump, saying here is what you asked for and offering something no one even considered. I don't recall any consultation of what we wanted, does anyone else?
Propaganda has turned viral this decade and it worms into your psyche trying to direct your thoughts and pretend it is your own idea and desire. Be very careful.

"Job and finish" went years ago when Royal Mail conviently gave us all vans so that most of us would have to drive them all back to the office. Now we got PDAs that can track where you are every time you scan a 2D barcode. You can't mean to tell me that Royal Mail won't use all this to their own benefit??
What Royal Mail have always wanted are staff to work all the hours that they are paid for. So I really do think that if one postie is regularly finishing 2 hours before his time everyday, then they will be given some more work to make up their hours. Some might not have a problem with that. However, for those who are regularly working past their time will be royally $ha*fted when they won't be getting paid for it. What a great idea!! That will stop all those whingeing posties complaining about bullying and harassment from managers. And the company will have control over all the variables - tailoring our indoor work plans, increasing the D2Ds, reducing the prices of mailsort/parcels to increase our workloads, oh, and they will only reduce lapsing, not get rid.
Royal Mail do enjoy making up their own rules and I'm sure it turns them on when they continually keep saying stuff like 'dwindling mail volumes', 'managing the decline' and 'increase in parcels not making up the shortfall in letters' to us. I'm afraid I will be putting the 'Changes you ask for and Delivery Ownership given back to Postmen and Postwomen' back into room 101 as well. It will be one of the worst things to ever happen to hard working posties.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I'll be damned if I'm working ~0700-1800 around "Xmas pressure" time stick, for the carrot of ~0700-1300 (at absolute best without taking a break) during the kids summer holidays on my own duty, before having to consider what other duties in my group need doing due to holiday and/or sickness!
As a guess, working ~0700-1500 during spring and autumn on most days.
... While never getting paid overtime.

And you can put that back two hours so it will be 9am to 8pm around "Xmas pressure" time and 9am to 3pm (at absolute best without taking a break) during the kids summer holidays and during spring and autumn on most days.IloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:I'll be damned if I'm working ~0700-1800 around "Xmas pressure" time stick, for the carrot of ~0700-1300 (at absolute best without taking a break) during the kids summer holidays on my own duty, before having to consider what other duties in my group need doing due to holiday and/or sickness!

If RM move the pipeline back a couple of hours then your normal start time will very likely be 9am anywayLounge Lizard wrote:And you can put that back two hours so it will be 9am to 8pm around "Xmas pressure" time and 9am to 3pm (at absolute best without taking a break) during the kids summer holidays and during spring and autumn on most days.IloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:I'll be damned if I'm working ~0700-1800 around "Xmas pressure" time stick, for the carrot of ~0700-1300 (at absolute best without taking a break) during the kids summer holidays on my own duty, before having to consider what other duties in my group need doing due to holiday and/or sickness!

How would they incentivise owning your own delivery though?
Surely the more delivery points on a round would attract a greater profit/reward?

According to our area rep RM would ultimately ideally like us to be starting work as late 2pm in order to supposedly ''capture the next day delivery market''.
2pm-9pm in the middle of winter when it's dark at 4!!

That would probably tie in with the introduction of one wave due to the time required to sequence mail if RM insisted on all mail being sequenced. There would still be multiple bundles, each in sequence but not necessarily covering the same delivery points, depending on what was in each sequencing runwacko74 wrote:According to our area rep RM would ultimately ideally like us to be starting work as late 2pm in order to supposedly ''capture the next day delivery market''.

"Own" is a positive word, incentive implied with the suggestion that we would actually have some control over our own delivery.

Being a postman has always had that late morning early afternoon finish aspect to it , if they move the times so your finishing at 5-6 oclock in the evening then you may aswell get an office job where your not knackering yourself out for lets face it a very average wage.
We need to start a petition where Moya greene has to do at least at year on deliverys in all weathers to then see if we are overpaid or not , she wouldn't last a week, at that should tell everyone that the top management have no interest in the "pond life" at the bottom of the ladder.

The big problem with moving the pipeline back to us finishing around 5pm is that RM are employing an ever increasing amount of part time staff with no real prospects of full time hours. Therefore a majority of workers may have to or already take on a second job to make ends meet. What will happen when all these workers have to give up second jobs to make way for RMs plans or can't find a second job that fits around their new work hours. It's bad enough just now not knowing what time you'll get finished when your bullied into not cutting off, but what about when they introduce the route ownership and your finishing way beyond for no extra pay? They really aren't giving a stuff for part timers imo. But then again, how many will stay when the **** hits the fan?

Absolutely no way that they will be able to bring in working extra for free. No way. Fair enough if every duty could be comfortably done in the duty hrs, wouldn't mind going over 30 mins one day to finish 30 mins early the next. However, when duties can't get done early ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, ANY TIME OF THE YEAR ....... I'm afraid not. Nobody in their right minds would sign up for that would they. And as for covering your 'mates' absence ? They really are taking the micky.

if RM push back the start/finish times, are they not open to constructive dismissal. A lot of people joined because of the hours and may be forced to quit because of this. Just a thought.
