if its 35 hour week it will be done, aim missing something, before you go out just say when your time is up you will be bringing anything left back. use your equipment , take your break, don't run , start when you should easy I cant see the problem .

RM are happy to give us a 35 hr week because they know most of the staff give them 2+ hrs a week free charity work

If they do bring in the 35hr week then DOs are probably going to find more mech mail will come through as manual during the busier times of the year

Had a "Town Hall" meeting at our RDC today with the head of processing & walk bundling. He raised the subject of the 35 hour week & that this amounted to a 12% rise which (paraphrase) "is an increase R.M., or any other company, could not afford".
39 to 35, at once, equates to a rise of around 10% . So I am unsure where the other 2% comes from.
The truth is that Terry Pullinger has clearly stated the proposal is to phase in the 35 hour week. Perhaps therefore it would be more helpful to have clarity on a timetable for the phasing period to prevent any future ambiguity.

Did anyone call him out on the fact that for a full-time member of staff working basic hours it's no raise at all. Assuming the same amount of work is being done in those fewer hours which is the plan the actual cost to business is far less. Overtime rates would obviously increase but their plan is to reduce the reliance on overtime anyway. The greatest increase in cost would be with less than full-time staff, perhaps an incentive for a new more versatile delivery model that reduces the need for part-time staff? He raised the subject of the 35 hour week & that this amounted to a 12% rise which (paraphrase) "is an increase R.M., or any other company, could not afford".

Unfortunately not. I take your point. We had the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the meeting after an hour which descended into criticism of managers on not organising staff or running the operation efficiently.fishtank wrote:Did anyone call him out on the fact that for a full-time member of staff working basic hours it's no raise at all. I was concerned that the 12% figure, repeatedly used, was taken out of context.

Don't forget that some of the eventual four hour reduction in the working week from 39 to 35 will include a reduction in your default paid breaks, we are entitled to 40 minutes if our shift exceeds 7 hours.
So on a five day week, if you don't do overtime, most OPGs will have 40 (if you have a very short Tuesday) or 50 minutes of that four hour reduction from a decrease in paid break time.
Consequently, the actual work time reduction is three hours and 10 mins, which is less than 10% (if every shift was 7 hours long).

Sounds like typical RM maths. We've all heard the likes "mail is down 4000 and packets up 500 so we have time to lapse".He raised the subject of the 35 hour week & that this amounted to a 12% rise which (paraphrase) "is an increase R.M., or any other company, could not afford".
No one's made it clear if the hourly reduction would be instead of any annual pay rise, which it most likely will be. So in real terms it's just a rise each year similar to inflation over the 3/4 years it would take to come in. Which we should be getting anyway.
Or have I totally misunderstood the proposal.

An hour a day less in which to run the wave 1 so less boxes will get run. There won't be capacity to run it on wave 2 so it'll have to go manualgary1975 wrote:How's that going to work seeing rm want to remove prep frames from Do'sSpacePhoenix wrote:If they do bring in the 35hr week then DOs are probably going to find more mech mail will come through as manual during the busier times of the year

His point is that with no prep frames we won't be able to do any manual except the bare minimum. It'll probably come straight back because sorting manual will have a huge impact on the outside aspect.

And it would likely be sent straight back to the DO. If RM bring in the one wave then i'm afraid DOs will have to get used to even more manual as we won't have the time to sequence more than probably about 14-15 traysTrueBlueTerrier wrote:SpacePhoenix wrote:An hour a day less in which to run the wave 1 so less boxes will get run.
