Lets also not forget the CWU aiming for a 35 hour shorter working week as one of the four pillars. This RM plan seems to be at odds with all that.

Everyday you will be demonstrating your workload isnt sufficient, eventually RM are going to drop the hammer and point to your finish times and give you more.
+1

The goal posts, over time, will be shifted - as we have seen them being shifted in a variety of other ways already. In other words, previous agreements that have been made in good faith are being rescinded by RMG.This will be no different.

Personally I think its an absolutely terrible idea for the workforce. I don't want to ''own'' the workload. What, so that next year they can increase that workload by 10%, leading to a 10% reduction in the workforce, and my pay only goes up by inflation (2.5%) ??

Call me a cynical old so and so - but no tar.

I think if they really wanted to Royal Mail could quite easily increase their letters business, and another way of doing it is by reducing bulk posting rates for local businesses. Imagine walking in on an 'Easy Tuesday' and finding your mech tray filled with all these addressed letters and you have got to go to every house!

We now do collections on delivery, whats to stop Royal Mail from adding a few more of these as well??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Ofcom would see to that

Also separate rules apply for anyone lucky enough to be under 18 years old.
I'm pretty sure the working time directive will be scrapped once we leave the EU.

If it is, and it's not by any means certain that Brexit means the end of the WTD (its embedded in many aspects of UK only Law) then the right to 28 days annual holiday is also under pressure.

If we followed the Norwegian model which a lot of brexiteers seem to advocate, the WTD will stay.

Where on earth do RM get the idea that
'Changes You Asked For ....
include
Delivery Ownership given back to Postmen and Postwomen
?

This was in the latest edition of that font of RM propaganda known as Courier p4.

Many don't read it but it confirms the sort of rubbish they are peddling.

Royal Mail know that the cheapest way to get 9 hours work done in 8 hours is to let the staff know that you don't mind if they get it done in 7. As for the people who are incapable of getting it done in 7, there must be something wrong with them. That's how it has worked from the day I walked in the door and I don't expect it to change.

BTW - am I missing something here, but this whole idea of a ''return'' to job and finish - as if its something that doesn't happen anymore. If by 'job and finish' its meant that you finish once your delivery is complete, then it does still happen. A lot of us wouldn't be returning to it at all - we never left it. Isn't a problem with management either (off the record).

That made me laugh. Its true as well - and makes you realise what a bunch of glorified spivs we often have the pleasure of working for.
ps. taurus - ''we struggle and emerge'' - I like it.

The point is that's how it will be sold to the staff. You now "own your delivery". All you have to do is make sure you deliver it and we won't ask for more, no lapsing, no complaining from management about finishing early, do the job and go home like job and finish but you sign up to the good and the bad, no cutting off and no complaining ( or overtime ) if it takes you over your time.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

So you finish your delivery, say an hour and a half early and go back to the depot to sign off your duty. Are you honestly saying they won't hand you a bundle or two of mail to deliver?

There won't be any mail to hand over. Some poor bugger who isn't on an easy round will have it and will have to deliver it even if you're finishing an hour early and he's three hours late.

'Owning your delivery' is the most dangerous idea RM have ever had and is also a big step on the road to route-franchise. Anyone agreeing to it is nuts (or is close to retirement and has enough seniority to ensure a cushy delivery for the couple of years he has left).

Don't think anyone raised this point.

People don't want to use Yodel, we all know it's got a terrible rep (At least in South Wales). It's purely down to cost that it's used at all. Royal mail have the infrastructure to handle more parcels. If they know it wont cost them more to deliver it, with ownership model, then they'll reduce the price and we'll have far more parcels to deliver. Which we all know will take way more time than a few more letters.

Terrible idea.
