IloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:Even though we had duty tweaks this summer to try and combat inequality between duties, by and large it has simply changed which duties are now the bad ones, while some unchanged duties are as easy/hard as they ever were.

Indoor 318 work away from prepping assigned duty still has to be fudged to help harder duties.

OPGs are finishing before their contract hours in the summer mainly because their are not using their breaks, not using HCTs/LWTs correctly, not standing still to get mail for the next address from the working bundle etc.

The early finishes in the summer are not going to balance out the heavy workload from September to March, nevermind the Xmas chaos where we have duties that can go over by 3+ hours if completed!

What about reserves who get moved about?

What about duty holders that work their days off and insist on the day off cover being kicked off their scheduled duty, to a duty they barely know the frame?

Absolutely no way, the union should be fighting this one hard! The whole situation is a beast of RM's own creation, largely impossible workloads if doing the job correctly, because manager bonuses are tied up in making further savings that rarely exist.

I think it's fair to say the root cause of impossible workloads at my depot can be laid at the door of a specific ex-DOM, which consequent DOMs have been unable to fix because of pressure from above and the threat of reduced bonus pay.
to right and this is part of the 4 pillars , its not a case of lets cherry pick ect , nahh lets get the ballot papers out .

You would have to think about vehicle hire, trolly hire, pda hire and maybe even uniform hire. Utter bollocks and would not work.

for those that are even tempted into thinking this is a good idea...
you get an agreed duty, you rush around and you start making an hour + everyday, things are going great - do you think RM will just turn a blind eye to this over the long run ?
Everyday you will be demonstrating your workload isnt sufficient, eventually RM are going to drop the hammer and point to your finish times and give you more.
Also at xmas, you have plans on a Saturday in December ? well think again ! your workload takes you past 5pm with no recourse on your end.
The whole reason job and finish ended before is because RM saw hours and hours being paid with no work being done regardless of how fast the postie was.
Overall this idea is LOSE-LOSE for posties, dont be fooled into thinking this is a good idea.

And that guarantees the majority of part-timers being against this.

Will bring big job losses as no reserves will be needed. Also does it mean no day off or are you all going to cover that every day which means that if someone is on hoiliday, one is off sick you pick that up as well as covering someone's day off. My partner has been off for the last 8 weeks sick so straight away that's extra every day to cover plus in that time someone else may go down, add in annual leave, day off cover plus anything else that may come up and you could end up with your 8 hour day and then another 2 or 3 hours extra on top.

Sounds Terrible ! I can imagine the scenario , A group of 5 postman/ women . They all have 6 weeks holidays a year , Nobody can have holidays at the same time. So thats 25weeks you would be covering somebodys holidays . Thats not even tacking into account people in your group who are constantly of sick . So in affect 25 weeks out of 52 you would be lapsing :hmmmm
:hmmmm

How could they legally enforce employees working unpaid?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

How are you unpaid?
You are simply paid to fulfil a certain quota of work. Piece rate - plenty of industries operate like that.
In fact when someone goes to their manager "I will cover that duty on overtime on Saturday but I want 8 hours for doing it" they are asking for a certain amount of money to fulfil a certain quota of work. So some people already have introduced piece rate and now RM want to extend it to everyone.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The second part you add isn't technically allowed though - if postie finished early its technically fraudulent OT claim

As far as I'm aware they aren't proposing piece work or covering annual leave for free, the proposal is that you own the workload until completion however long that takes you.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

How the heck would they organise this for PT staff currently on various hour contracts and various shift patterns? We currently have 22.5 hour staff doing three day weeks, 25 hour staff doing five day weeks and 30 hour staff doing four day weeks!

Before our Delivery Methods revision, the 22.5 hour PT staff officially started at 0930 on five day weeks if I recall correctly, in theory arriving to a fully prepped duty... Except more than 9 times out 10, there was 30+ minutes of prep still to do before bundling up.

That's before we even talk about PT staff who currently do lots of paid overtime to boost their wages...

This whole concept sounds typically RM

The working time directive limits workers to a maximum 48 hours averaged over 17 weeks unless they choose to opt out. It is the employers responsibility to monitor the hours worked of any worker not opted out. So by not opting out this would be the absolute ceiling for some. Also separate rules apply for anyone lucky enough to be under 18 years old.

If a FT youd still be potentially be doing 9 hours for "free" on a busy week once you hit the 48 hour limit, if there was a heavy workload that week.

Another thought, whats to stop RM accepting every D2D contract / bulk contracts at lower rates than they already do ? Once they have us signed up and agreed to clear all mail on delivery X then every item extra they can get out of us the better, even if its at lower rates than usual.
