Boost for Corbyn as major trade union agrees to affiliate to Momentum

Labour’s fifth largest trade union has said it will affiliate to Momentum.

The CWU, which is Britain’s largest communication workers union, is joining up with the pro-Corbyn campaigning organisation.

The decision was made by the union’s NEC unanimously, the New Statesman reported, and now has to be approved at CWU’s conference. They hold the event in either April or May of each year.

Dave Ward, the union’s general secretary, said: “The general election showed the value of Momentum as part of the wider Labour movement and it has established itself as a major political force in the UK. It has a key role to play in securing a transformative Labour government and we look forward to working with Momentum to help deliver this at the earliest opportunity.”

“In the election Momentum helped reach out to new groups of voters and worked to mobilise, train and organise thousands of activists for Labour’s campaign. The CWU will now be joining Momentum in its campaign to unseat prominent Conservative MPs and seeking to work with Momentum to re-assert trade union values in society today.”

I understand Unions and Labour hand in hand, but corbyn ??? wtf the most dangerous man in politics. we want to move foward not backward. please dont tell me my subs go towards that traitor ?.

I'm not really sure momentum knows what it is yet so I think it's a bit premature for affiliation. It has 27,000 "season ticket holders", about the same as an average sized football team. What influence does the CWU political group have inside another political group inside a political party that's in opposition? What's it going to cost?

The way Momentum have been acting recently, it almost acting like a Paramilitary wing of the Corynistas section of the Labour with intimidatory and bullying tactics surpressing dissent and debate for the greater ideology.

Kinda reminded of how the Communist regimes used to operate in the Soviet Union.

I certainly wouldn't want to be associated with them.

You really shouldn't believe what you read in the Tory supporting media. i'm not a member or supporter of Momentum, but they have done a good job in mobilising support for Labour, especially among young people who were previously largely politically apathetic.

My CLP Branch Chairman and Secretary, are members of Momentum. They are both also doctors, intelligent and dedicated long time LP members.
They go out of their way to ensure full and fair debate and participation of all members, regardless of their political position in the LP.

That's more than I can say for the supporters of the right wing groups within the LP like 'Progress' and ''Labour First' who use procedural devices and bureaucracy to try to shut down debate and support for more progressive policies and candidates.
