I've just read about this. Apparently this will also be the case for holidays too.clashcityrocker wrote:And RM know all of this which is why they want to introduce "team working" so if one of your team go sick, the rest of you will have to step up and cover it.ScousePostie wrote: The way our office is at the moment for people going sick, I could see entire walks being left in if there is no cover for a duty available.

Just to be clear, my understanding is RM want "team working" cover to be done for free, no overtime pay for going past your contracted hours.clashcityrocker wrote:And RM know all of this which is why they want to introduce "team working" so if one of your team go sick, the rest of you will have to step up and cover it.ScousePostie wrote: The way our office is at the moment for people going sick, I could see entire walks being left in if there is no cover for a duty available.
I hope I'm wrong in my understanding of the above!

Talking to a Engineer he says the CSS machines can not be upgraded.
Royal Mail in 2005 had the choice of 2 machines. The much more expensive model they didn't choose could be upgraded.

If the teamworking is true, what happens if you finish your own duty bang on time and then they say you have to cover part of a walk as someones gone sick and by the way your not getting paid for it. Am i missing something here because they cant make you work for nothing and cant make you work past your time.

They could annualize your hours.bolton1969 wrote:If the teamworking is true, what happens if you finish your own duty bang on time and then they say you have to cover part of a walk as someones gone sick and by the way your not getting paid for it. They can analize team working.

I'll not deny,
I heard it once,
It said 'goodbye'.

Annualised hours are ok in theory but there are a lot of potential management issues trying to implement it, also it's not really as straightforward as more hours in winter/less in summer. October/November are busy months, so are March/April, January used to be but the last couple of years have been quiet, this summer has been busier in our office than any of the last 5 and obviously we're short staffed due to extra holiday leave, annualised hours would have killed our resourcing model this year. What happens during an election year? I have zero confidence that local management could implement this properly or even given the shambles that could surround it that it's even in the company's interests.

Annualised hours means you won't get paid for, or the choice of doing, O/T for hours over and above your "norm", and those hours will come back as "you can go home now" on light afternoons in March or whatever.
Lose-lose for the Average Joe.
A 35 hour week is a major step, and is ultimately going to cost several pounds of flesh...

And who keeps the record of these hours. The managers cant even get last weeks overtime right.
Can just see it now.
Postman, you owe me 2 hours from last month. I will finish early today.
Manager, There's no record of it

So what happens if you don't owe them hours from summer as you've done the job properly heading into winter heavy time ?

Annualised hours won't work in MC's, every shift generally goes right to the wire no matter what time of the year
