CARLISLE MC/DO UNOFFICIAL WALKOUT!

Post by 1carlislemc »

basically...

management not moving part timers up to 40 hours, hiring casual staff on 40 hour contracts,
no overtime is being put into the mc/do to clear the backlog,
second class mail was diverted last nite at midnight to preston mc, so we could clear out m/s backlog,

night shift workers were told the mail has been diverted etc and they decided to walk.

9am we were advised to go back, area manager agreed to resolve the issues and double overtime in mc/do.

griff and the boys did a great job once again!

-good on them ,stand up for your rights <don't let the bastards grind you down (quote)

Preston MC used to be a easy one to divert mail to in 2003 . There has been only two/three unofficial IA's , 1999- walkout in distribution warehouse with two drivers sacked for fighting -2001 but the distribution reps came in on the night shift -two day unofficial IA with good support when Liverpool Mail was diverted from Watford , there was 1hr walkouts by the PHG's when the NSM brought casuals in to do sorting on inward BB/LA -PR/FY -result was a problem solving initiative .

The NSM was soon moved and promoted to MCM elsewhere after a ram raid on the locker . Allegations that the NSM had a "interesting" lifestyle and financial committments are completely unfounded , it was purely "routine "enquiries with the Police , the promotion,a pure "coincidence" Newspaper Reports over £40,000 going missing from the locker prior to the ram raid were "pure press speculation" as the IB said there was no case to answer on two occasions . This was nothing to do with sweeping things under the carpet or double standards . I'm sure the IB had RM's best interests at heart.

A LSM 's future was not under threat through his "refuelling " issues -this was mere idle /malicious gossip -his florid complexion was purely from overdoing the sunlamp .Any fumes were purely those of a strange brand of aftershave.
To be fair to Preston MC staff -strike support has been good, as MC's tend to be divided fractional , greedy souless places hence the 1.8% no vote in 2003 .
The striking staff clearly must of thought "Our new way of working" was a resounding success and the constant failures down to sheer bad look and such good top down mgt ,strike breakers have been in single figures , everyone knows who they are , even some non union staff haven't crossed the lines
The present MCM was promoted from NSM "purely on ability alone" , he was never carried by the other WAM when a ML4,who could run sections like clockwork.
