Are we all ready for a National Strike?

Post by postslippete »

I don't think we would lose the business on the letters and flyers. But we would on the smaller parcels.

We are the best company with a network that enables us to deliver efficiently. But in the event of a strike then customers would be forced to use myHermes or Yodel, and we could lose their future business to companies like these. Royal Mail has shown monthly increases of parcels being delivered so why would they even try and jeopardise this?

I get Royal Mail's theory in informing us that we are the best paid in the best company and procrastinating to us what will happen in the event of a strike. Its thanks to the CWU that we are the best paid with good terms and conditions!! But methinks the company is getting greedy. The idea of making these outdoor deliveries spans bigger obviously means that they need less delivery staff and if a bigger delivery span isn't enough to scare most posties $h!tless; the idea of delivering these bigger deliveries LATER will!! Royal Mail want this new pipeline and everybody on deliveries to just like say 'hell yes, I'm happy to come in at 11am and work till 5pm non-stop just so that I've got a job'. Royal Mail are massively unrealistic in their expectations -they are dreaming big and daring to fail an a massive scale.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

No Premium Bonds are for mugs - I prefer a fat Dividend.

between the young pups in the DC itching for an extra check (effectively a bribe not to picket), the veterans who are resigned to get bent over yet again, and others who frankly dont care or dont realise the grave importance of what is going on....

RM + moya know this.

silver lining would be that hefty dividend wont be going anywhere (although better for moya than the average postie....)
Don't know if this guy is legitimate or not, but he private messaged me a while back. He purports to have links to Wall Street and some level of insider knowledge. I won't share the private message, but I will share his last post on here.

I think he's spot on.

However, I believe there will be a strike - and we will win.

Some rep you are.
No one is wearing a hi viz so why is he being singled out?
As he has never worn a hi viz at the very least you should be arguing custom and practice.

Though back in the real world I felt Sagan's disqualification was harsh. There simply wasn't enough room for Cavendish.

Regardless of your views everyone should view the video in the thread titled "Ralph ferret" in the union section. Sums up the situation perfectly.

RM want there to be a ballot to guage the resolve of the union at the present time I think. If there's any sign of weakness it'll shape the future actions.

I don't see them wanting a strike however, it's bad for both sides.

The Union want the Four Pillars - it's not as daft as you may think.

An early start would allow for more delivery of items the 7-9am window is a crucial time and at the moment RM are ignoring it but at Christmas they use this window so it works.
A 35 hour week needs to happen. 6-8 hours per day walking is going to seriously damage your health, fatigue, knee problems etc. Sick will go through the roof, but by not paying you 3 days sick will also make them a profit.
A pension you can live off, anyone below the age of 50 is looking at working till 67-70, could you really do the above till 70???
All agreements, managers breaking every rule in the book because they are told to by the DSM's who are told to from above them.

The RM facts are these:

RM want to get rid of the USO, if this happens there will be massive job losses as you could in theory have 2 people doing 10 duties 5 days a week. ( 2 different duties per day)
RM want to track you, they want to know where you are every second of everyday, even on meal breaks and toilet stops.
RM want longer outdoor delivery time anything from 6-8 hours walking, they want to eliminate all indoor working, they have sequence machines for small and large letters and a packet sorting machine so this will happen.
RM want you on an inferior pension scheme, the cheapest they can get away with so that more profit and more dividends can be paid.
RM say they have competition, THEY DON'T!, No other courier firm does what we do, FACT!. DPD, HERMES, UPS etc. do not deliver letters and leaflet material.
RM want owner duties, so you basically you buy your own duty and YOU have to find cover for it when on sick or holiday.
RM want the ability to dismiss you for so called poor performance, so if you book overtime regular on your duty, if you cut off regular, if prep or ips is not up to speed etc.
RM don't want to pay you for being off sick for the first 3 days.
RM want to take all paid allowances away.
RM want new starters on lower wages, soon they'll want everyone on a lower (minimum wage).
RM want to close as many offices/buildings as possible to asset strip and boost profits. They don't care if customers or employees have to travel further.
RM want a 5pm finish.

Is your job not worth fighting for???? - If we lose then all of the above will come in, no question about that.
Do or Die!!!
This is madness all a strike will do is screw us all. Guess what no parcels no money no jobs. Do I agree with everything no. But the market has changed people want later delivery when they are not at work. So we need to change the way we work. If we get more work and more money then our jobs are safe. Look long term.
