Delivering in the dark is dangerous our H/S is at risk. 4 oclock is about as late as we should ever be out and thats pushing it.

So on a delivery where you are regularly an hr late, in December we are gonna be delivering the last 3 hrs in the dark. In a village. In the countryside. REALLY?

dingo wrote:The second is that 85% of the Mail centres have 95% of sequencing work available at 0200 and they want to start the sequencing of this work at that time and this will mean that you will get this portion of traffic into your office later. The other issue which will reduce indoor times is that Royal Mail do not want this 95% than thrown into sorting frames just checked and tied up.
If RM want sequencing to start at 02:00 then either we'll be sending a hell of a lot more mail to DOs as manual or some DOs won't be getting their sequenced mail until 14:00 or later.
dingo wrote:Additionally Royal Mail's proposal to bring in 95% of the work later is linked to their strategy of having you merge from three different bundles whilst on delivery too save them indoor time. Again the CWU do not support the strategy of Delivery OPGs merging from three bundles i.e. 95% of your sequenced Mail your first bundle , your second bundle will be the remaining 5% sequencing and Manual and third will be your door to door collated which they now have purchase another machine.
The "multi bundle" system won't have a hope in hell of working, on a busy day you might have 2-3 bundles of sequenced mail, in order but each containing a random selection of delivery points

Everything dingo has posted is terrifying.

I guess this would take the time sorting indoors, to literally sorting out in the street. Postie's going over and above the sort rate, but managers just can't fathom how they can't get three trays of sequenced thrown in with four D2D in 15 minutes :d'oh!
Too much time spent talking and toilet breaks :arrrghhh

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I have delivered in the dark previously, 4-6 pm in the depths of winter, it takes at least twice as long to do as it does in daylight... having to carefully pick your way up and down dark garden paths where you can't see any steps or other obstacles, constantly having to stop under street lights to read the addresses on letters, impossible to see most door numbers from the van when delivering pkts etc etc

dingo wrote: Secondly all the estimations that Royal Mail have of the work which they would capture from later acceptance times would not equate to more than a extra parcel per walk so there is no justification for everyone moving start times based on their estimation.
I find this extremely disturbing. RM want all this upheaval all for the sake of ONE extra parcel (at most) per walk per day :arrrghhh :thumbdown

Surely the RM bean counters must know this as well.

Space Phoenix the second 5% will be walk sorted. Royal Mail have modelled this and they state it will work in the vast majority of Mail centres. The CWU don't think it will hence the opposition.

I wonder if whoever modelled it at RM has ever had any experience operating a CSS machine or a iLSM/IMP in sequencing mode. If the wave 1 is started at 02:00 then it'll be after 12:00 at the earliest that the last bit gets walk sorted. Running it on iLSMs or IMPs won't be an option as they'll by that time of the day be running outward plans. DOs are probably going to have to get used to the idea of a lot more mail going to manual. Chances are that the final 5% will just be sent to DOs as manual

Delivering in the dark will make posties more vulnerable and a target for thieves, especially in rural areas. Just my opinion.

How do they propose we " hold " 3 bundles whilst driving between dp's on a rural ? , would we need to have 3trays in the back to pick from , hardly efficient or even practible.

Like most of these ideas they all come up with are centred around large town deliveries , not hybrid , part rural or deep rural .
