Flooding closes town's post office branch

CRICKLADE is without a post office after heavy rain led to flooding in part of the Tesco Express store in the high street.

The section was closed on July 31 after the downpour and stayed shut because there were fears the electrics had been affected by the floodwater.

Staff were advising customers the space was still waterlogged.

Although the store itself remains open, people needing post office services are having to travel to South Cerney or Cirencester. Nearby Purton is also currently without a branch and residents are making do with a temporary mobile service on Tuesday mornings between 10am and noon.

Tesco was unable to say when the branch would re-open for business.

A spokesman for the firm said: “We have had to close the Post Office section of our Cricklade Express after heavy rain resulted in water entering that part of the building.

“We continue to serve customers as normal in the Express store but the Post Office section remains closed whilst we are carry out essential safety works. We will open the Post Office as soon as those works are completed. We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure has caused to our customers.”
