...and it can go the other way. DPD cannot deliver BEFORE the notified timeslot. I've had them parked at the end of my lane waiting. When I wandered down to find out what was going on, I was told that my item would have to wait until the start of the timeslotwoody38 wrote:Today I ordered a ne phone, DPD are the carrier, I had a text from my phone provider telling me the parcel would be delivered tomorrow, I then got another text asking me to book a slot, I booked a slot which is an hourly slot.

DPD offer a service at a premium price. When you checkout on purchases you often find that there is a choice between RM standard delivery - usually a couple of quid or courier delivery at somewhere around £8/10. So they are offering a totally different service that you have to pay for. Would guess most people choose the RM standard as the cost of their purchase is probably in most cases somewhere between £10 & £30. Nothing to stop RM offering a premium service like the other couriers but then they loosely do that at the mo with before 9.00am which I don't see as something which has taken off. Besides it's all very well getting a timed delivery slot but if you are at work all day then it arrives when it arrives and there's not a lot you can do about it so paying that premium price is a waste of time.

In my experience of doing pkt duties (every Xmas) I find far and away the best times for catching people in Mon-Sat are between 7-10 a.m.
You're almost guaranteed to successfully deliver 99% of your pkts between these hours, it's only after 10 that you start finding everyone's gone out (recipients and neighbours) and you're having to leave dockets.
If RM are serious about competing with specialist 'time specific' couriers and achieving 'first time' delivery completion they should introduce a specialist pkt duty covering these hours.

To my original quote about moving with the times from what I can see at my delivery office I thing van sharing has had its day. a lot of people at my office are falling out with there partners & refusing to work with them. DBD do give a premium service but I didn't have to pay for it my provider did. I remember when we used to deliver mobile phones it's just people expect more these days. If RM separated Parcels from Mail it could work if done properly, the problem wie have is RM thing computers are right for everything, route planning needs local knowledge as well as computers, Walk planners who now what they are doing.

Having separate parcel/packet deliveries from letters is going backwards in Royal Mail's eyes, they don't want two vans working the same area. From a financial point of view they are correct, from a service to the public point of view...

Only Parcel Force could attempt a DPD type model. And they don't?

Wouldn't be able to do time slots at my Delivery Office,
They can't even get the mail and parcels down to the Office at the right time with these agency drivers and some of our walksorted was delivered to the wrong Office

Even before 10am I doubt if it would more than 90% on any duty.wacko74 wrote:In my experience of doing pkt duties (every Xmas) I find far and away the best times for catching people in Mon-Sat are between 7-10 a.m.

"a specialist pkt duty covering these hours" would cast money so it won't happen.

My local DPD driver is on the verge of quitting because he is under so much pressure. The service is superior to the other delivery firms but the workers at the sharp end are treated like dirt, a familiar story i think you'll agree

The driver I know is being forced to work Sundays
Think DPD are bit like Royal Mail not giving a s**t about its staff

Gangham,
But what time does the DPD driver Finnish on a Sunday ?
We didn't mind Saturdays when it was home by noon but we're not happy with a mid Saturday afternoon Finnish.
