ScousePostie wrote:We had so many packets on our walks today that we could have actually swam in them. Told DOM that we would need to leave large packets and lapsing. He showed me figures that stated the walks only had an 35 and 42% call rate and that there was only one other walk in the office with a higher call rate. I found this quite hard to believe, but still accepted his argument. In the end I agreed with DOM that the lapsing would be left. 45 minutes over today.
In future don't accept his argument. He is talking nonsense. They can't work out call rate unless they physically stand and count the gaps in frame. The only call rate they could potentially have from the mail centre is from the sequencing machines which I figure may give call rate statistics for each walk - but that doesn't take in to account any manual mail or packets which clearly affects call rate.

Secondly, don't go and TELL him what you need to leave - simply inform him that in your estimation the workload is too high to complete and that you do not wish to work past your contracted finishing time and ask him to make the MANAGERIAL DECISION as to how you are getting back to office for finishing time. If he says leave 1 loop and in your estimation that isn't enough, then inform him that the workload is still too high. If he is insistent that you can complete, then get rep involved and continue discussion in his/ her presence. The manager may ask you to take it all - however again make it quite clear that you have no intention of staying out past finishing time and for him to make it 100% clear what the expectation is with regard the uncompleted work. If he feels that it is a performance issue, then he has procedures that have to be strictly followed which your rep will (hopefully) be fully aware of.

We have been told to take the lapsing and claim overtime for it. Amazingly, people did.

Population of the country has increased by 10 million in last 20 years (approx figures). Amazing how none of those 10 million ever receive a single item of mail :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

Some people just don't want the fight.

I'm convinced RM purposely target these people to employ, to then exploit them further down the line.

Today I had 5 trays of sequenced mail with an acf of 240 per tray including a bulk posting for every door on a walk with 640 calls. According to automis, the computer system that counts the sequenced mail and never makes a mistake in those 5 full trays I had 341 items of mail.

Automis, is it a case of shite in and shite out or is it just shite? I had a Casio calculator at school that could do better.
Even the DOM was laughing.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Few of my colleagues counted the mail in the trays for a few weeks. Trays had more than RM's figures every time.

Having a bulk posting in there it might have been sequenced on an iLSM or IMP which might not run the Automis system

It's pretty clearly a case of the bulk posting not having been recorded by automis (auto-miss?). 341+640 = 981, 4 trays of 240 = 960.

What disturbs me is that our mail centre consistently sends nearly 9% of machinable letters as 'rejects' (they are barcoded so have clearly been through the machine to be manually sorted (this in addition to the small numbers of letters at the back of the sequenced trays). They also don't seem to be putting nearly as many flats through the machines - our walksorted trays have halved while IPS trays have pretty much doubled.

It's more than likely been sequenced on either an iLSM or an IMP instead of a CSS machine

DGH when was your DO's A+ last updated? For your DO to be getting that many rejects on a regular basis, the most likely cause is that your A+ is well out of date. How many of the letters are going to new builds?

Not all MCs have flat sorting machines. The drop in walk sorted trays could be down to the same reason as the number of CSS rejects, the A+ being well out of date.
