Been here a year now.
My hourly rate is now £11.18 including delivery supplement, up to 39 hours.
After that it's a flat £10.65.
Er, that's less...
See where you're coming from though- you get the full rate over 39 hours at your start date, and that's great.
But to get less than your hourly rate after a year is ridiculous.

Part Time Contracts in Royal Mail are a Win.. Win situation for Management.
I believe they are Immoral and I agree that the CWU should have addressed this problem years ago, although they don't appear interested in the problem.
I believe the only way a Part Timer is going to win this game is not to play. If you're employed on a 20 hour contract you've got to be willing, and able, to live on that contract (totally unrealistic I know). Royal Mail are relying on you wanting those extra hours and working the full 39 hours plus type scenario. This has all the advantages, for them, that have already been mentioned.
One suggestion is to get a second Part Time Job (whose hours you can rely on week in, week out) and simply work your RM Contracted hours. No doubt the DOM will dangle the prospect of a Full Time 39 hour Contract .... but it will probably never happen... even if you work 39 hours for years. It's not in his interest to give you more hours, he's already got you doing the job (and not paying the extra holiday & sick pay). You're more likely to get your contract increased if you, and every other Part Timer, just work your hours. Then he'll be getting pressure from his Boss.

For me this is a massive issue. I really think there must be some form of law they must be breaking. I did some googling and EU law states your average overtime should be included in holiday and sick pay, which makes perfect sense. It was taken to court and the employees won. Why isn't this being applied?
It shouldn't cost you £200 to have a weeks rest. Completely unfair

However, the ruling could be referred to the Court of Appeal, meaning a final decision may be years away.Tomolo208 wrote:For me this is a massive issue. The ruling has widespread implications for companies where staff are required to do overtime as a regular part of their job. Lawyers said the tribunal was not clear on whether the ruling applied to workers doing voluntary overtime.
Your overtime is voluntary therefore may not count. If you do SA overtime you do get paid for it while on holiday.
There was a communication about this some time ago from the CWU but it does appear to have gone very quiet again.
Obviously if it was to be backdated in RM it would probably bankrupt the company and consequently it is unlikely the CWU would pursue it.

They say it's voluntary but they fully expect people to do it.
Rota in advance for part timers to work on full time duties you say you wanna work 4 hours a day....what duty has a delivery span of 4 hours? Even a 25 hour can't fit into any of our duties including their meal relief

"Agenda for growth" 2.7.7. The level of part time Employees’ contracted hours will be reviewed by the
Employer and the CWU locally on a six monthly basis. Where appropriate,
increased contracted hours will be offered to reflect the hours actually
worked and planned.
Our office have just had part time OPG's made up to full time using this Legally Binding agreement

I have 2 colleagues who were told this would happen to them, by previous manager, and after nearly 2 years new manager comes in and 3 part timers were made up to full time, 1 whom work full time hours anyway with the other 2 only doing there contracted hours. This was done based on seniority and colleagues told that it was a procedural failure and nothing much can be done now and to deal with it.ganda wrote:"Agenda for growth" 2.7.7. I don't think that's lawful. It is the specific individuals who are entitled to the enhanced contracts because it is they who have worked the required hours regularly over the period, not the most senior of the part-time staff. The CWU shouldn't be promoting seniority over legal entitlement and Royal Mail should not offer enhanced contracts to senior staff at the expense of those more junior who are entitled to them (it would be fine for additional p/t staff to be made up by seniority).Jarry164 wrote: I have 2 colleagues who were told this would happen to them, by previous manager, and after nearly 2 years new manager comes in and 3 part timers were made up to full time, 1 whom work full time hours anyway with the other 2 only doing there contracted hours.
