ROYAL MAIL TRIED TO KILL OFF OUR UNION AND WE STOOD UP TO THEM AND BEAT THEM. LETS DO OUR JOBS PROPERLY AND GET NEGOTIATED SETTLEMENTS OVER THE COMING MONTHS FOR OUR MEMBERS. KEEP UP THE FIGHT, DONT BURY YOUR HEADS IN THE SAND THATS WHAT THEY WANT.
OBVIOUSLY THIS IS SET OUT FOR DELIVERIES. NOW ASK YOURSELF, DO YOU WORK 7 HOURS ON TUESDAY??? IF SO YOU'VE GOT A BLOODY GOOD WALK. IF YOU WERE PUT ON 7 HOURS TUESDAY,MOST PEOPLE WOULDNT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THEREFORE ITS SOMETHING YOUR DOM WOULDNT DO OR HE'D HAVE TO SEND ALL HIS MANAGERS OUT ON WALKS THAT CANT COMPLETE.
ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS THE JOB CORRECTLY AND THIS SO CALLED LONG AND SHORTS WILL NEVER HAPPEN. UNFORTUNATELY THOUGH THIS WONT HAPPEN AND WE WOULD HAVE THE SAME OLD "IM LOOKING AFTER MYSELF" BRIGADE WHO ARE RUINING THE JOB. THATS THE MAIN PROBLEM HERE,CERTAIN POSTPERSONS WONT LISTEN AND FOR THE SAKE OF JUST WORKING THE TIME YOU GET PAID FOR,THEY ARE RUINING THE JOB FOR THE REST OF US WHO DO THE JOB CORRECTLY.
Where do you get this "30 minutes" rubbish from?
Here are two extracts from the agreement which will clarify the situation for you.
* Longs and shorts - a structural change where the normal work pattern may be rebalanced across the week to reflect the traffic profile. For example individuals could be scheduled to work 7 hours on a Tuesday and 9 hours on a Friday. Total weekly contractual hours would not change.
* Variation of hours - Where necessary, for example when traffic volumes are unexpectedly high or resourcing issues arise, individuals may be asked and may themselves request to vary their duty times by up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis. Again, individual circumsatances will be taken into account and total weekly contractual hours would not change.
Had you somehow missed the paragraph above the one you seem to be fixated on?
As for the money: Do you really think that we would have Striked for so long, just to get more money?!?
Don't you realise how long it will take for us to recoup that money?
You also fail to appreciate that the deal was made in secrecy (apart from a few leaks), and that we are now expected to decide wether we agree that it is a good deal or not.
There is also the fact that there is a certain amount of disinformation going round in an attempt to trick us into a yes vote. I have dealt with one above.
I don't know wether you were taken in by the disinformation, or wether you are deliberately peddling it. BUT EVERYONE MUST STUDY THE AGREEMENT THOROUGHLY BEFORE VOTING.
If People do read the agreement thoroughly, and still decide to vote yes. Then that is fine, and no-one should criticise them for that. After all, the Union is a Democracy, and as such EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion, and a chance to vote whichever way they feel is right.
The problem comes, when people just read breakdowns of the agreement, or listen to word of mouth, without checking their facts. There are many strong views on it, and I have expressed mine too. But this should only be a means to draw people's attention to parts of the agreement, and our views of them. It is up to everyone to read it properly and make their own minds up.
Personally I will be voting NO, but it's a decision that everyone must make for themselves.

hope i'm wrong but i can see it going through, and whilst we are on the subject why haven't we heard anything from the union about a ballot timetable, we have had nothing at our office no communication from the branch, not a thing

The problem is you haven't beaten them. Part of the deal is that local areas will have to agree 'efficiency' plans by the end of January next year: that is the reps have to agree to cuts and intensification of work. How can you 'keep up the fight' when you are implementing the management's agenda?

i'm not losing sleep over issues within the agreement and nor should anyone else. i've mentally accepted that it will be voted in because for every one of us on here that voices our concerns, and rightly so, there are probably 4 or 5 who will silently vote yes, mainly through strained financial resources, time of year, or for whatever reason.
flexibility will only affect those people who are fools to themselves, the headless chicken brigade. my biggest worry from the outset of the dispute was d2d payments and the pension and we have now been assured that whatever the out come on these two we will be balloted separatley on them, so it is a little easier if you take time to scrutinise the whole agreement word for word, the problem being, when have RM ever stuck to an agreement

Spot on which why I am voting NO. They general ideas behind the deal are ok but if you have a bullying or autocratic manager then this deal is the green light for him to do what he wants. Local agreements are never very good as they just get binned when it suits local management.arsenalbob wrote:i'm not losing sleep over issues within the agreement and nor should anyone else. i've mentally accepted that it will be voted in because for every one of us on here that voices our concerns, and rightly so, there are probably 4 or 5 who will silently vote yes, mainly through strained financial resources, time of year, or for whatever reason.

Exactly right TBT. Flexible working in principle is, or can be a good thing. However, this 'tool' in the hands of RM will sadly become a 'weapon'. I have seen nothing in RM to convince me that a potentially good thing will EVER be used in a manner to benefit employees. This is also the thin end of the wedge - 30 mins will soon become 2 hours 'to meet the needs of the business'. Watch this space....TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Spot on which why I am voting NO. By a seperate ballot they have weakened your hand How many members now eork indoors and are not effected by D2D payments are they going to strike for you ? How many members have less than 10 years service upon whom the effect on pensions is mimimal again same question ?arsenalbob wrote:i'm not losing sleep over issues within the agreement and nor should anyone else. i've mentally accepted that it will be voted in because for every one of us on here that voices our concerns, and rightly so, there are probably 4 or 5 who will silently vote yes, mainly through strained financial resources, time of year, or for whatever reason.

Well said Sarge. The thing to remember is Royal Mail do not employ honourable people as managers. If they were honourable it is doubtful they would consider becoming managers in the first place. This is just another 'agreement' which they will use to bully the newer, weaker and otherwise vulnerable members of staff. The Sarge wrote:Exactly right TBT. If you take long and shorts (tues 7hrs, - fri 9hrs) add the 30 mins flexibility to the friday long day, your only 30 mins away from the two hours RM want.

How long does a local agreement stand for? Is it until there is a change in local management, Linos, DOM etc, or is it until local management want to change it? I personally think that some local issues should be dealt with at a local level. What works in one office won't always work in another. But at the same time, major issues must be decided at National level.
