Highbury -Sorting office move 'disappointing'

ROYAL Mail will relocate its Highbury sorting office to an existing one in Holloway’s North Road from next month.

Staff will have to travel an extra two miles to deliver mail to the N5 area after moving out of the Hamilton Park office.

Royal Mail spokeswoman Sally Hopkins said: “Holloway delivery office has sufficient space for the Highbury delivery operations and offers a better working environment for our people.” It will have longer opening hours.

There will not be any job losses due to the move, according to Royal Mail.

Former Liberal Democrat councillor Terry Stacy, whose petition against the move had more than 700 supporters, said: “It’s extremely disappointing for staff and residents, who wanted the sorting office to remain open.

“There will be more vans to take post to N5, which is not good for the environment. It seems to be about the Post Office making the most of the land value rather than care for users. Residents are going to have to travel a considerable distance to pick up their post.”

Royal Mail said there will be no impact on deliveries when the sorting office moves on July 17.
