But if nearly all part timers work 39 hours a week on a 25 hour contract week after week after week what incentive does Royal Mail have for making them up full time ?yellowbelly wrote:Because if you need a job and 25 hrs or whatever is what's on offer and you need to feed the kids/pay the bills then you take it!!!!raymod wrote:What I don't get with all you part timers and no disrespect to you all
But when you applied for the job you all knew it was p/t so why all the when are we going to be made f/t malarkey.
Surely you would have applied for a full time job somewhere.![]()
But then you find out that you are regularly (if not permanently) asked to work up to 39 hrs and want to work 39 hrs but
RM won't offer you F/T.
Oh for the luxury of 'applying for a full time job somewhere'!!!

Longe Lizard is spot on. You can point the finger at the CWU but without proper legislation from the government regarding pt/hours actually worked this is going to become increasingly more common....Lounge Lizard wrote:But if nearly all part timers work 39 hours a week on a 25 hour contract week after week after week what incentive does Royal Mail have for making them up full time ?yellowbelly wrote:Because if you need a job and 25 hrs or whatever is what's on offer and you need to feed the kids/pay the bills then you take it!!!!raymod wrote:What I don't get with all you part timers and no disrespect to you all

thank god your an ex-rep with your attitude towards pt staff.raymod wrote:Not really I got some part timers made up when I was a rep. They seem happy with that. Also my p/l buddy is a p/t and we work well together.
I don't see much of a divide well not in my office.
Other than none of them can sort

In delivery, Part Timers are not generally trained to sort.aiden01 wrote:thank god your an ex-rep with your attitude towards pt staff.raymod wrote:Not really I got some part timers made up when I was a rep. They seem happy with that. Also my p/l buddy is a p/t and we work well together.

In my area the CWU have a fairly good record of increasing the hours for part timers but not perfect by any means. The agreement is there to enable part timers to move on up to full time hours it just has to be used in the right way. When full timers leave the part timers on 30 hours will be asked if they want to move to full time hours if they do then those on 25 hours will be asked if they want to move to 30 hours and so on. then you recruit to the lowest hours contract. Alternatively the hours that part timers are performing should be reviewed every three months in the resource meeting and if they are performing full time duties on a weekly basis over that period then the case should be made to make them up.If its not agreed then it should go into the ir framework. Not always successful but you have to try. Royal Mail want to keep part timers on low hours so they can flex up the hours when needed. Problem is they don't get all the benefits that go with working full time hours.
