Job hopping

Post by postbuster »

Hi there

I recently applied and completed the tests on the last day of May. I've not heard anything, is this a bad sign?

Also I'm concerned in the last two years I've done a little bit of job hopping due to moving cities and fixed-term contracts etc. I am concerned this will go against me as I'm keen to get out of an office environment.

Any opinions, advice would be welcome. Should I follow up the tests by getting in touch myself?

Late May - no that's not a bad sign, it's indicative of how slow the recruitment process is.

As to job history, as long as you have been as honest as possible and cover the whole 5 years then no there won't be a problem with "job hopping". In fact it may help as it shows you are flexible.

The online recruitment process seems in large part to depend on the speed of your response, then the accuracy of them, finally the 3rd factor seems to be the distance from the office you apply for. Of course, this perception may be inaccurate but that is what comes across from new applicants who post on here.

Thanks for the useful info. I thought I did it at a reasonable time and completed the tasks with some time left, sometimes with only a few seconds to spare towards the end ones.

In terms of the depot, it's only a 7 mile distance (15 mins driving) so hopefully that will be considered 'close'.

Would you ever recommend phoning to check on an application status or is it best to wait it out? I gave you my applied date but not sure how many more dates it was live on the website for.

No I wouldn't recommend contacting them by phone as it's a central office that does the recruiting, (though interviews and interviewers are based locally) and they do the whole UK. You'd run the risk of upsetting them.

The recruitment process is very slow in Royal Mail, I think it's an average wait of 3 - 4 months from applying to actually starting work so a fortnight is still quite early to get concerned. Its just a case of being patient I am afraid.

Great, I'll be patient with it! Something that will happen sooner or later.

I might have read once on the forum that you can only have one application going at one time. As my current application is pending, does this stop me from applying for another job if one came up?

In fact my online profile for this particular job has changed to 'Testing Complete'?! :hmmmm
