Royal Mail aims to save £300m with SAP

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Royal Mail is seeking to transform its procurement systems with the SAP E-Sourcing system, and hopes to save £300m by 2009.

SAP E-Sourcing is a single, easy-to-use common sourcing process supported by the SAP platform.

The system will play a part in Royal Mail's three-year procurement transformation programme, which aims to save the business £300m by 2009.

The programme, led by Daniel Cameron, Royal Mail Group procurement director of performance and transformation, focuses on changing procurement across the key areas of people, processes and technology.

Cameron said, "The SAP system will play a key part of our transformation programme for Royal Mail Group procurement."

The e-sourcing programme is being rolled out across more than 100 staff within the Royal Mail Group procurement team. It is helping the team manage £2.3bn of annual expenditure through the contracting process.

Steve North, Royal Mail senior procurement manager for technology, said, "The system allows us to move away from our previous disparate systems. Now we have an integrated, standardised methodology, resulting in up-to-date reporting processes and contracts. This delivers true visibility across the entire team and a more efficient way of working, all resulting ultimately in cost savings."

The Royal Mail Procurement Transformation programme has been supported by consultant Deloitte.

Why do you think it's at your expense?

Post by F0zziebear »

Croc, why do you think it's at your expense. It's a system to manage the procurement of goods and services from outside of RM, not it's staff!

This explains what I was tlaking about over several months. RM procures vast amounts of things, such as printing, elastic bands etc... At the moment rhe systems are quite antiquated and very manually intensive. As you can see there is a central team of 100 people procuring stuff.

As I said before there is a massive central operation that supports the operation

Please look at Fozzies posts, there are enough of them.
He has a lot of respect on here from a lot of us.
We don't always agree with him,but he's not a Management stooge.
Most of us would rather he DID NOT piss off.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The bonus system at RoyalMail is a joke. I for one never understood how my bonus was calculated. I could have read a long manual to work it out, but when you are gauranteed about 80% of your annual bonus it becomes pointless. It is almost as though it's part of your god given right to have that as part of your normal pay.

I understand that part of that bonus is made up of financial performance of the whole Royal Mail Group. I do not know if this applies to frontline posties? If it does then savings made in Procurement will feed into that bonus. If it doesn't then your negotiators have missed a trick. We have saved millions out of the centrla expenditure of RoyalMail and I am one of those ivory tower bureaucrats who left under one of those voluntary redundancy programmes.

I have been accused of many things in life so will put cros comments down to high emotion rather than dispassionately assessing the facts.

All I would say is that managing RoyalMails procurement more professionally may indicate that not all changes in RoyalMail are for the disbenefit of frontline staff.

As for spying equipment, then it's two sides of the same coin. Using GPS on trucks for example from my persepctive would allow me to more efficiently plan trucking so get mail to where it should in the shortest possible time for the least cost, in terms of fuel, manpower, nos. of trucks etc... Ultimately efficiency will possibly cost jobs, but are these god given jobs that should remain at all costs, or come and go as patterns change? For example the travelling post office was disbanded along with the mailrail in central london. Some may argue that they shouldn't have gone, others point to the massive overhead costs of running such a system versus using other means.

Thanks Postman for providing a response on behalf of the website. Until I am clearly made to feel unwelcome I will continue to attempt to provide insight that isn't provided by the CWU or Management
