The day that clocking in machines are introduced will be the day you'll see EVERYONE coming in at their time and leaving at their time. There will be no lapsing because everyone will tell management they don't have time. No overtime because most won't want overtime because overtimers have been in a mindset of ghosting, meaning all duties will have to be covered. Anyone who tells you that 'job and knock' will always be part of this job is mistaken.

How would a clocking in machine actually stop people from starting early? I've always wondered how it is any different to what happens now with signing in sheets etc?

because it would give a clear record of peoples finishing times. With that, the managers will be able to look at this and see where there is a shortfall of hours. The computer says Duty A comes back on average 43 minutes early everyday = congratulations heres 43 minutes extra work for you, if you came in early it would be irrelevant, your early start time is not the time you have been set to come in. Now would it stop absolutely people coming in early ? no, but any incentive is going to be lost completely.LouBarlow wrote:How would a clocking in machine actually stop people from starting early? It should be that way now. It is at our office at least. We have managers in the office witnessing people returning from their duty and won't let anyone go home early. It doesn't stop the dumbasses starting early.Postie45 wrote:because it would give a clear record of peoples finishing times. when you have everything put into data and logged not just managers witnessing it, then its very different. Some people just cant be helped i guess, but at least theyre not benefiting from doing it at the expense of their colleagues.

In theory our PDA and Trimble data does just that.Postie45 wrote:when you have everything put into data and logged not just managers witnessing it
Since theft is illegal, as is working without pay, as is using threats and harrassment to induce people to work without pay, I'm wondering just how long it will be before a brighter spark susses out that the same tracking thats supposed to keep us on the straight and narrow should also serve the purpose of keeping them upon the paths of righteousness.

Which any manager is in control of sometimes a data logging app would be better solution than the crap management we now have and can back up your hours!aintsayin6766997 wrote:In theory our PDA and Trimble data does just that.Postie45 wrote:when you have everything put into data and logged not just managers witnessing it

The simple clock in clock out machine would work as a genuine measure of time worked.
No messing about filling in overtime sheets.

That wouldn't work. Although it may push a few hours off Quarter 1's budget it would see Quarter 2 starting at a deficit and negating any savings pushed onto Quarter 3 and so on and so forth.steve1873 wrote:
This IMO is a big scam that they pull. They have a quarterly budget I believe. So.... if you skim a few hours here and there every and continue to push it a week down the line, eventually when it comes to the end date of the quarter, the next weeks overtime which includes the skimmed OT is obviously not included as it forms part of the next quarters budget. This then carries on and on and makes it look like they are closer to hitting budget on a quarterly basis than they actually are.
That is only a theory, but I believe it is a fairly educated guess.
