Further talks are scheduled but what Mike Newby proposed in his letter is mostly still on the table and therefore is not acceptable and we remain miles apart.
we will remain ''miles apart'' until they realise we are not taking their shite and are out on strike. its the only communication they understand.

Look like there won't be an agreement for a very long time from the look of it.

The guys who exists at the top of the food chain in royal mail are clearly not business people. Primarily, they have not clearly considered the 'leverage' yet of making the deal I.e. who wants the deal more?

All that has been published is propaganda that our competitors are cheaper than us. In business, you only ever get something by giving something else in return. The CWU proposed a 35 hour working week, and one wonders why the union should be so forward thinking in their negotiations, because it clearly hasn't helped. All they got back was a list of measures from the royal mail like no sick pay and team-working without overtime!!! Hmmm I think I would prefer to stay on 39 hours if you please.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Don't know about DOs but in an MC a 35 hour week probably won't work as all shifts goto the wire as it is, RM would need to increase the number of staff to bring in a 35hr week

I wouldn't mind delivery suppliments being scrapped if they were replaced with performance / work load based payments. Maybe something like 5p per barcode scan but to cut them outright? Also, new starters getting full pay after 3 years is outrageously unfair. Most get upto speed after a year which the current system already reflects (pay bump after 6 months then 1 year) If all these cuts were based on performance I would think they were fair. I see a lot of ghosting etc which I think isn't good for any us. But these cuts seem based on financial targets rather than the reality of the jobs we do. Like some bean counters have randomly stuck a few percentage cuts here and there with no understanding of the reality in the ground. :evil/mad :thumbdown

You keep saying that but you keep missing the point.
Royal Mail think (rightly or wrongly) that the reason shifts are going to the wire and deliveries are overrunning is because staff aren't working to reasonable industry standards. Their plan isn't to employ more staff, it's to increase task monitoring and use that data to increase productivity.

I wonder where they got that idea from? Amazon warehouse employees anybody? They carry a PDA around all day and are constantly monitored.

So called "performance payments" would NOT reflect the job being done properly.
We are paid to scan every barcode, management know what proportion we each do so can already take action against those that often miss them. "5p per barcode scan" would just unfairly reward those with the most delivery points just as the Door To Door payments did up to a few years ago.
There's no realistic way that Performance Pay would be stopped from those doorstepping parcels, driving recklessly or otherwise cutting corners.

Does everything with a 2D barcode get scanned in though? I notice a lot of letters and small packets have them on and I scan them for the hell of it, so if they aren't being scanned in, then surely that would skew the stats and I could end up scanning more out on delivery than I technically receive?

How did d2d payments unjustly reward people with more delivery points? If they where delivering more, they got paid more seems fair enough to me! Do you really think royal mail top management give a damn about the job being done properly, they want people to do as much as possible in the least amount of time. They keep comparing us to yodel and other couriers and look how they complete deliveries in order to get paid

And i never saw a senior bloke pick a bigger duty in order to earn more from d2ds, in fact it was always the opposite, the biggest rounds left for the newbies to get lumbered with. In MY experience, only some get scanned and your scan rate is based solely on those. If the MC scans 8, yet you actually get 20, your scan rate is based on how many of those 8 you scan, those other 12 don't seem to count even if you scan them. This is just how it seems to work in my DO though.

No matter whether anyone had 300 addresses or 600 addresses ALL of the Door To Door preparation and delivery was done within conditioned hours, or if it wasn't overtime was payable, but one ONLY got paid HALF the Door To Door payment of the other. Very unfair.
