the problem does not lie with the 9. it lies with the senior represetatives in branches up and down the country, how can any of us expect our negotiators to get us a deal which meets the members aspirations.when branches are locally doing deals to sign up there members to efficiancy deals, sort and prep rates,my branch have.how can we expect the nec to tie rm down to deals which benefit our members , when they are being undermined at branch level. our unit held the national line, the som arrived on monday. he declared that our unit was not prgressive. your branch is he said. that my friends is the root of the problem. stand united ,the nec requested all branches not to enter into local negotiations. until branch senior reps start to follow the national guidance then and only then will the nec have a chance of getting deals which benefit the cwu members.

I think that you will find the problems lie with the number of members who, despite constant campaigns and advice, continue to:

1) Start work early for no extra pay.

2) Work past their contracted hours without claiming overtime

3) Use private cars on delivery

4) Don't take meal breaks that they are entitled too

5) Sprint round their delivery and then feel like they have won the national lottery because they have saved themselves 10-15 mins at the end of the duty.

6) Carry overweight bags

7) Break speed limits whilst driving

8) Generally continue to show goodwill to an employer that is totally immoral and could not give a stuff about the health & safety and welfare of its employees.

I have been to countless meetings where reps, branch secretaries, area reps and divisional reps have stood and told members that they are cutting their own throats by continuing to work in the ways described above.

Unfortunately the years of bad working practices have come home to roost.

exactly what RM want , they may have some right idiots in charge but not always that stupid . Divide & rule , they've taken one look at the opposition the CWU :and come to conclusions .
Leighton was saying staff say they don't trust the union , can we trust you ? (LOL) when he first started , RM didn't spend two years playing people up against the union for nothing . Then you've got to look at all the propaganda and PMC & Hellfail .

First thing a Leighton clone trying to be The Messiah did in Central Lancs, was play the Area Rep against the PEC , then other reps were neutralized by sending them up to the writing room or upstairs .

Not saying I agree with it , but that was a operator , a bully -yes !. The other tactics were try to sack a LSM for apparent refuelling issues and get rid of another SM who was the useless CMA rep . If that worked he could get rid of the poor WAM 's the SM's were protecting , then their protected dodgy staff .It breaks the culture , next; break the union.

As it happens ,The Messiah type ;cherry picked the "better " managers and got promoted to Manchester with more mechanisation . Probably appointed most of his relatives too.

That was 2003 , but have these donkeys moved on in the CWU ? , I'm sorry but I don't think so.

Hear hear... Same problem in mailcentres with goodwill employees starting early, running around, lifting, tipping overweight bags, using multiply pieces of equiptment at the same time, using broken or damaged equiptment, not operating machinery correctly and generally breaking most health and safety rules. Don't think this is the problem now... but it is certainly the origin and continues to accentuate the problem.
Remember, the way you do you job will affect colleagues for years to come - if you cut corners to do it quick, they will be expected to as well....and then RM will add extra work to fill the gaps.
