My view on Scottish Independance could well be materially affected by the result in next months general election. If a socialist alternative is trounced by the sheeple conservative consensus of England I might well throw the towel in with the UK.
My views on the pyschological deficits of trolls will, however, be completely unaffected by any election result.
You'd have thought Corbyn would have been the ideal Labour leader for all Scottish socialists to rally round, laughably they'll probably lose their only seat while the Conservatives could quite conceivably gain 12, all the expense of the SNP, hopefully the Lib Dems will take a few of them as well

What a load of tosh. Theresa May has gone to the country early to seek a mandate of her own and strengthen her hand ahead of the Brexit negotiations. To compare her to Hitler is just hysterical leftist ranting.k979aaa wrote:Everyone can vote who they want but the biggest tax grabbers will be the Conservative party unless you earn north of £80'000 a year or more where as Labour has said it will NOT raise any taxes upon those who earn less will not pay anything more. Yet the conservatives are attacking the very fabric of society the elder people upon who they take for granted votes and it is they who will pay if MAY gets in with winter fuel allowance abolished and Draconian health plans for the elderly. But now is the time to rid ourself's of the corrupt government of MAY and rejoice in the downfall of the most corrupt leaders in history of this nation god even Adolf Hitler was once elected and she never was!
The Conservatives are actually proposing to means test the winter fuel allowance for the elderly, which is long overdue. It has never made much sense for government to give this handout to affluent pensioners who do not need it. Those that need the winter fuel allowance ie. the majority of pensioners will continue to receive it.
Corbyn is proposing higher taxes, higher spending and higher borrowing. Everything in fact the Labour Party of the 1970s stood for. Such an approach would decimate the economy by choking off incentives to work and earn and be successful. What would be the point of working harder and earning more if a Labour government clobbered you with higher taxes?
Corbyn is the reason I can no longer support Labour and am prepared to give the Conservatives a chance.

Most socialists I know are voting SNP - not because of any particular antipathy to Jeremy Corbyn - rather, the recognition of the fact that in all likelihood they will, yet again, spend another 5 years being governed by the Tory south of England.
As, to date, a unionist, Its getting an increasingly hard argument to win TBH.
The moral of the story - a vote for Conservative will lead to a breakup of the UK in the next Parliament.

The SNP aren't Socialists though, they talk a good game but their policies are anything but. They have one policy and aim and make the rest up as they go along, I remember them being known as the Tartan Tories back in the 80's.

Yes, I know. Been talking to an SNP MP this week. Edinburgh banker. Thats not the point for the socialist. SNP are a broad church. The aim for the socialist is to achieve independance and thereafter achieve a socialist Scottish parliament. Scotland is a socialist nation, going on previous General Election results. Post independance SNP party will be toast anyhow - bit like UKIP.simply_the_best wrote: The SNP aren't Socialists though

There is no appetite for a second independence referendum in Scotland. The issue was settled in the 2014 referendum when a decisive majority voted to keep Scotland in the United Kingdom.jetblack wrote:Yes, I know. Been talking to an SNP MP this week. Edinburgh banker. Vote Labour.
The SNP don't accept this democratic result and want to break up a union that has existed successfully for over 300 years only to give away that independence to the EU.
I expect the pro-union parties in Scotland to win the majority of votes in the general election. Therefore, there will be no mandate for another independence referendum.

True socialists would never be Nationalists either. I couldn't care less who the Nats lose seats to in this election, just as long as they do

The UK Brexit negotiators won't be dealing with the electorate. They will be negotiating with the EU officials, and possibly 27 individual European governmentss.NWpostie wrote:Errr the electorates ? that mandate thing, you know ?clashcityrocker wrote:Apart from repeating the mantra, how exactly will her hand be strengthened?SierraOscarBravo wrote: ......and strengthen her hand ahead of the Brexit negotiations.

A Prime Minister who goes into the Brexit negotiations having just won a landslide victory will be able to command greater authority than one who has a tiny majority or none at all. Theresa May will be able to rightly argue that she has a fresh and decisive mandate from the British people to stand up for British interests.clashcityrocker wrote:Apart from repeating the mantra, how exactly will her hand be strengthened?SierraOscarBravo wrote: ......and strengthen her hand ahead of the Brexit negotiations.

Theresa May will not roll over and let the EU bully boys take us for mugs. Unlike Corbyn who is weak, weak, weak...

I haven't read the Conservative Manifesto, only what the media has reported about it. But as I understand it the Conservatives are saying they will save £2.5-3bn by means testing the winter fuel allowance. As there are 10m pensioners receiving it, that means most would lose it. The Tories are saying the poorest pensioners would be protected. They haven't made clear what the amount of pension or assets taken into account would be.SierraOscarBravo wrote:The Conservatives are actually proposing to means test the winter fuel allowance for the elderly, which is long overdue. I assume that because I have a RM pension, own a small flat (which is worth relatively a lot because it's in London) and still have my redundancy money, I probably wouldn't get the WFA, though I am far from affluent.
I suspect it will be only the poorest pensioners who get pension top up credits who will get it. If they are able to complete the necessary paperwork, or have online access to a DWP claiming process - from what I gather this is how benefits claims are made these days.

And the EU officials, and individual European Governments will rightly argue that only 52% of the UK electorate who actually voted were for Brexit.SierraOscarBravo wrote:A Prime Minister who goes into the Brexit negotiations having just won a landslide victory will be able to command greater authority than one who has a tiny majority or none at all. The EU has used and abused the UK for years treating us as nothing more than a cash cow.
We need a Prime Minister who will stand up to these unelected bullying bureaucrats and fight for Britain. That person is Theresa May.
