I remember ghost overtime but covering for sickness for nothing will only make for more sickness it in-self a formula for self destruction by the back door. Most people want to work for a living yet parasite's thrive upon the workers and these people will be removed in the goodness of time.Postie45 wrote:also what would happen to those on 39 hour contracts and workload is calculated as this -
Monday 8 hours
Tuesday 7 hours 15 total
Wednesday bumper day you have 10 hours of work to do. 25 total
Thursday 9 hours also team mate is off sick, have to pick up 2 hours of his work = 11 hours. 36 total
Friday hm only have 3 hours left

So the runners will continue running and making time and the people who cut off or claim overtime now will be told you cant cut off because youve got time to do it or if you work over you arent getting paid extra because youre just working too slowly? Could make it an interesting place to workfishtank wrote:It's not about owning the route as such, it's about taking ownership of the work on a daily basis. If x amount of work comes in the door you will get x amount of hours ( and therefore pay ) to cover it. How long you take is your business, in what order it gets done is your business, how you manage your breaks and the delivery span is your business but you'll still only get x amount of pay at the end of it. No overtime, no cutting off just get on with it.

I think they will try and copy what they do at Parcel Farce!
Owner driver is a posh way of saying you are self employed 1 of my brother in laws did it he worked twice as hard to earn the same money as his mate who was employed like we are.
Without any benefits no pension,no sick pay or holiday if he went sick he was billed by parcel force something stupid like £200 to cover his round and he had to find unemployed mates to cover his round when on holiday or he would be bankrupted by the firm!
After 6 months he left funnily enough he was a parcel force employee for about 15 years prior to this episode he took EVR tried something else didn't like it so thought he would give owner driver a shot
So draw your own conclusions from the above but basically if I'm correct don't touch it with a barge poll

As Royal Mail have done before, they are trying to force industrial action by the workforce. They have an agenda which sits somewhere between the unworkable proposals that they have put forward and an agreement that they will eventually make with the CWU. All the old sound bights are coming out already, such as ' If we do not change then we will lose share of market to our competitors'. etc etc.
They will get the work done by non union ranks, managers, casuals ( even though this is against Strike Regulations), and strike breakers, and will reduce their wage bill on strike days.

Are the Doms/Linos not threatening industrial action themselves over the proposed pension changes and job cuts? I hear that a lot of acting Linos may be going back on deliveryLincox wrote:As Royal Mail have done before, they are trying to force industrial action by the workforce. Cannot be enforced, all overtime is voluntary.
And they will never enforce overtime because that would mean having to pay holiday pay for all OT worked. Would cost an absolute fortune.

Surely if it's a 39 HR week or a 35 HR week once you've done those hrs then you have fulfilled your contract

Only way they can do these proposals is introduce banking hours. And having worked in companies that have banking hours this will also be capped. So not only will you be covering sick, days off, holidays etc. But you'll also be covering colleagues that have used up their allowance. There will be 0 overtime for anyone. Managers will be off with stress within a month and mail would fail everywhere. Good times.Postie45 wrote:also what would happen to those on 39 hour contracts and workload is calculated as this -

Im absolutely convinced that somewhere there is a squad of highly trained, highly paid bastards who mull over our hard fought for terms & conditions on a daily basis with the sole intention of tearing them apart & pissing us off as much as is humanly possible.
I know we've been here before with Park & Loop & all the other nonsense this lot have thrown at us but I refuse to get wound up about this. It's simply a non-starter,some sort of weird deflecting tactic

I think a lot of the stuff thrown in by RM in their proposal is so ridiculous and not compliant with employment law it's almost funny, I think it's purpose is as a bargaining tool to say okay we compromise and will drop that if you accept all the other stuff which is what they actually want to get in. Complete red herring and we need to treat their proposals with the contempt it deserves.
CWU need to bargain hard on our behalf and not budge an inch.
Remember RM have an obligation to deliver to every house every day unlike all our competitors. They can only do that with the consent of their employees- us - or the regulator will be on their back and the share price dropping like a stone.
My opinion is we don't even need a strike to achieve this causing everyone financial hardship.
Work to time nationally starting with every Wednesday. If they don't give in quickly which I think they will, work to time in December every day and see how quickly they give in. Everyone will still have a weekly wage whilst the dispute is on.
Ps RM I work for RM I have no interest in what yodel dpd or any other worker earns or their conditions.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Thats about the size of it. Work 36 get paid 36 or you owe them 3 work 41 hours and they check your PDA to see why it took so long. Make no mistake PDAs are tracking us and will be used to dock time.Newbie001 wrote:Only way they can do these proposals is introduce banking hours. I worked for DHL for several years when I joined there were 50 employed drivers I left when they sold the domestic parcel business to Yodel at that point there was only 5 employed drivers they used what they call service partners which was a guy who was responsible for certain postcodes and he used white van men to deliver those areas at a rate per parcel after he took his cut was great for Yodel no holiday pay no sick pay no van costs etc if service partner could not cover an area for whatever reason Yodel would use agency and bill him the cost if any driver wanted holiday they would have to get cover at there cost that's why Yodel can deliver parcels so cheaply
And just to remind Rm when comparing wages Yodel,Hermes,DHL etcthey don't have to walk 6 to 10 miles a day to deliver parcels/packets is like comparing apples to onions !!!

It would be a complete disaster. RM already can't get the right size of walk's and workload isn't evenly split. I have no faith in them building me a four hour duty. My four hours are in real time, their measurement of four hours is somewhere in the region of five, at the very least.
