Well worth a look!
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Interesting, however,he mentioned that Royal Mail, call it give and take, as he quite rightly pointed out, they are keen on the take side of things,he seems to have forgotten to mention the "give",side of things, or is it a two headed coin, where Royal Mail take and I give? Or perhaps he just ran out of time in his video, I'm sure Royal Mail will be eager to tell us as soon as they can..

I like the Superman mug.
But nothing else.
But nothing else.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Who is he and at what level have there been discussions about franchising routes?
He spends most of the start of the video saying there will always be a need for floaters and reserves but if you were to own your own route, surely it would have to be 6 days/week.
Isn't it the case that where a route is franchised (do Parcelforce have some) you have to provide the holiday cover as well?

It's not about owning the route as such, it's about taking ownership of the work on a daily basis. If x amount of work comes in the door you will get x amount of hours ( and therefore pay ) to cover it. How long you take is your business, in what order it gets done is your business, how you manage your breaks and the delivery span is your business but you'll still only get x amount of pay at the end of it. No overtime, no cutting off just get on with it.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

But the letter states specifically "greater route ownership".
But piecework or franchising - how exactly do they propose to introduce it?
Is this just a sideshow to distract attention from other real issues? It is after all simply 3 words in an 8 page letter with no context or explanation.

senority is already out the window.
in london most offices now have parttime only duties that cannot be signed for by full timers and there phasing more and more duties to be p/t only meaning more senior workers cannot even sign for a duty and are forced to be reserves at the behest of RM.
also they can shove there teamworking where the sun dont shine there glossy propaganda filed magazines need to be burned outside every delivery office in the uk simultaneously before we strike

I have no confidence in trying to stop this happening, if RM want this ownership sheme in it will come in, I remember everyone saying that a 4 and a half hour delivery was never going to happen with posties laughing at the thought and guess what? So it's just a matter of time in my opinion - just saying

If workload is calculated to take your full hours for the day, and someone is also off in your group, how would thart work ? Is this kind of work by volume even legal ? There are many factors which can change how long a delivery takes every day, and im sure thats why RM want to put all this chaos onto its workers shoulders rather than running an actual business properly.

As much as I don't like the idea I can see why it would make sense but I don't for one moment imagine it would be done properly or work.
if I have roughly 5 weeks off per year then that means 10% of people are on leave at any one time. I don't know about other offices but ours seems to have about 7% off sick on average. So for 8 duties, there should be at least 10 full time staff in the team. I just can't see that happening.
Also, if I have to work until 8pm then what is to stop me saying "my feet have had enough, I'm going home sick" and everyone just finishing when the can work no more?

Wednesday bumper day you have 10 hours of work to do. 25 total
Thursday 9 hours also team mate is off sick, have to pick up 2 hours of his work = 11 hours. 36 total
Friday hm only have 3 hours left
