Last year Of Comm commissioned a report on European postal companies and why they were more efficient than Royal Mail. This was carried out by the WIK company.
Most of the European postal administration operate a full service every other day and therefore cut costs on the lighter days in Mail centres , RDCs and delivery offices.
Royal Mail in the recent talks have now suggested that they want to trail the heavy and light concept. Currently only 43% of work is deemed as under the USO and therefore on 3 days per week All Mail will be go out as normal and on 3 days per week only first class and premium items. This is why they want to keep second class in Distribution Hubs and on the light days they can cut jobs and costs.
ANNOUNCEMENT : ALL OF ROYAL MAIL'S EMPLOYMENT POLICIES (AGREEMENTS) AT A GLANCE (Updated 2021)... HERE

No such thing as a light day in a MC, with all the cuts in staffing over the years generally every shift, every day goes to the wiredingo wrote:Most of the European postal administration operate a full service every other day and therefore cut costs on the lighter days in Mail centres , RDCs and delivery offices.
That will see the end of early shifts in most MCs. 2C is already 3 day spec. It gets posted on day 1, sorted on day 2 and sent to the inward MC and then delivered on day 3dingo wrote:Royal Mail in the recent talks have now suggested that they want to trail the heavy and light concept. If second class , mailsort and DSA is not going out in the Delivery office the next day do you really believe Royal Mail are going to continue to sort it in the Mail Centre the previous day ?
