Yodel and Hermes are currently under investigation by HMRC (amongst others) for the illegally low pay and abysmal T&C's that their ''self employed'' couriers are operating under.

Good I hope these people get what they deserve and Yodel and Hermes are brought to account.

I can only assume that the RM have picked the very worst examples and these happen to be self employed roles.

They don't compare us to UPS UKMAIL DPD though.

As the older generation disappear, the younger ones want a different service. Remember when you cut out a coupon in the paper and it stated please allow 28 days for delivery? Now if it's not delivered within a few days they go nuts.
This is it guys, privatisation issues are starting to kick in and RM will do anything to undercut the competitors, even slit the throats of their own workforce. As the leaflet says, RM don't owe us a living, the customer does, and RM will always, always side with the customer.

I doubt Yodel/Hermes don't put up with half the things we do. They can cherry pick where they deliver for a start.
On occasions the roof of a customers property ,or leave it at an address 20 doors away, without notification, truly top service. Anyway, we used to be threatened with TNT as the bogeyman, what's happened there?

What really annoys me is Ofcom have actually criticised RM for their ''excessive cost base''.... which by implication must mean ''excessive wages'' given that wages are far and away RM's biggest ''cost base''.... and yet Ofcom turn a blind eye to the illegally low pay and abysmal T&C's that our competitors offer their ''self employed'' workers.

Just shows that are Ofcom are part of the establishment when it comes to screwing workers wage down, just like the BoE who quite obviously only consider wage inflation to be the only kind of ''bad inflation''

I don't see what business it is of ofcom to question our pay.
If anything they should highlight our pay to other courier firms and be pushing them to increase the wages of their workforce.
Customers have a choice at the end of the day with regards to who delivers their items, with exception being letters.

USPS postmen/women earn about £40k a year, the Irish earn about £25k ,Canadians earn on average £29k. Not sure how much french Germans Italians earn in relation to us.
And RM and others in this country think we're overpaid.
Us posties do not earn 40 k per year more like 40 thousand dollars

40k usd is about 31k £ in today's money. Not far off, and still way more than RM pay.

It is not within Ofcom's remit to comment on wage levels at all... but as they do see fit to comment on RM's wage levels why do they also not comment on our competitors often illegally low pay rates/
