Someone stares at the beginning of the thread somewhere Royal Mail proposal I through logging of pda's also finger recognition is very overrated and costs a fortune to implement not to mention if we all arrive at 6am there will be a queue of 80+ people in our delivery office waiting to sign in there is a good 10 minutes of day wasted not to mention they are very sensitive pieces of equipment to say the least a gym owner I know had one and any grease, sweat on finger would not work

I can believe swipe cards though but I think it will be pda's as it will be 'workaroundable' shall we say for covering overtime or getting people to do it etc

It would cost far too much to implement and is definitely not in the business' interests. IT DEFINITELY WON'T HAPPEN! People starting early has been going on forever and I'm 40 years in. AGs starting early has never been challenged by inspectors and FTers have been happy to use this to skive off and box in their own walk. 'Nuff said!

to be honest who gives a s**t if they do , if you have nothing to hide and you work ALL your paid hour or genuine o/t then no problem , BUT if your sat at home on pay or ghosting o/t then tough s**t , sooner the better.

Royal Mail also want to use the technology which now exists to understand actual start and finish times , IPS time , prep time , outdoor time , travel time and introduce performance standards and resource based on actual information from Trimble , PDA's and the new data capture software which they are investing in.

They have even suggested they want to pay only for the hours actually worked based on the information and performance standards generated by the information from these sources rather than just contracted hours. They have even stated that if someone does not want to do absorbtion than fine they will pay them less and only for the hours worked. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... ta#p753621" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

An interesting point that dingo made. So what if someone else does deliver the absorption but ends up working half an hour over. Do they get paid overtime for working half an hour over?

No. As part of the pay negotiations, Royal Mail have put on the table using PDAs to log in and out when you are doing and when you have completed various tasks.
Similar to the way BT (Openreach) works. You sign on in the morning and log each job when started, on-site and finish, pick up next job and so on. You also log when you started and finish your break and when you finish. I know this would probably be a slightly different model for RM but it would probably work along the same lines.

so for those that do the job right inc meal reliefs and lwts and go over everyday and claim will there dutys be adjusted ? and thats WITHOUT collapse are you a lazy bastard swinging the lead then ? , when you have others sat at home at 1 and on pay till 3 is that down to a performance issues ? how would that work using pdas surely clocking in or scanning in machines would be a better way , get paid the hours you work.

using the pdas for indoor work on delivery wouldn't work as u would have to get your pda before on your start time and log in , scan for sorting letters (x mins ), when you've finshed then scan to go on pkts ( x mins) or the other way , then scan to go on frame ( x mins ) and 9 times out of 10 the dim shouts you back up as the the ips isn't finished due to the joke mail figures , scan again nahhh :crazy: , scan or clock in , indoor work done , van loaded , van check , meal relief , log on to pda and leave for delivery , then use pdas for outdoor work timing , back to office unload van etc ,log off , claim o/t , clock or scan out finish time , its not rocket science is it. :arrrghhh , your outdoor work isn't just 1st letter to last letter like some think. :left:

I dread to think what the new "performance" standards would be. Im sure if they took 2 loops off everyone's duty in our section then I can say with reassuring honesty that :

- there will be far less customer complaints
- there will no overtime done, other than due to staff sickness
- there will be more quality control i.e. 2D barcode scans, P739s correctly filled in etc etc

But as I said before, the company wants to have its cake and eat it. The CWU put out their vision for a shorter working week, and god help us what Royal Mail want in return.

get real, all tha would happen is people would come back to the office even earlier.

I really can't see pda paying for logged hours that will be well open to abuse like I said previously the pda will be the way they do it so overtime gets done and the doms can fix it so overtime rates will still be paid at a worthwhile rate for the postman

Another thing if pda logging is introduced surely everyone will just slow down and literally drag there walks out on a daily basis as there will be no advantage for anyone to go quick and start leaving loops in this is great for jobs but cannot see Royal Mail trying to make it go in this direction
